if you have high speed internet like dsl or cable, you can get a router that will "split" your internet to several computers and all can be on the internet at once. if you use dial-up, both can use internet but only one at a time.

no,you canuse the same modem\router depending on which one you have,i have 2 p.c,s running of my broadband router, the main p.c is using a usb connection and my bedroom p.c is using a ethernet connection, allthough you can use whatever configuration you want,2 ethernet,1 usb,1 ethernet
if you are using a cat5 crossover cable( a cable used for networking),you need to get a adapter(around £2-50) to connect the cat5 cable to your broadband router
the easiest way to configure 2 p.cs is to do this
1.connect your main pc to your router using a usb lead(the one that came with the router pack),and install the driver disc that came with the pack
2.in the ethernet socket at the rear of the router ,insert the crossover adapter,in which you insert your cat5 crossover cable, and then roll it out to your desired location(you really need to buy at least 20 metres of cable, around £20),and then plug it into you 10\100 lan socket on your laptop
i would buy ,some wall clips so you can just plug your laptop in at the other end and get straight on the internet, you must install your broadband instalation disc on the laptop aswell remembering to let the instalation know you are using a ethrtnet connection if asked
you cant just split a connection, this setup will only take you about 20 minutes to complete ,apart from laying the wire which takes around half an hour
if you look in help and support in windows xp you will find some examples of networked setups
good luck

if they were each connected individually, then yes. But there is a way to split the connection with the use of a router. You would then be making the desktop the main puter, but you'd also be able to link you're laptop (wireless or with wire - whichever you prefer). i have a 'linksys router' and i've never had a problem with FOUR other puters that also use this same connection. What's you'll physically be doing is running the cable/dsl line into the router and then from there you can link up to 4 other puters.

There is actually no need for paying two internet subscriptions. The Laptop and the PC can be networked throgh a network cable and then you can use the only net connection for both the computers.

Thank u

No its easy to do, go to a computer shop or even the catalogue, you need to buy a wireless connection and the rest you just follow. There will be a small amount of time to set it up but everything you need is in the package and it has very easy step by step instructions. Then your ready to use your computers at the same time, and have your computer in any room.

Do what delta9 said and your are able to share Internet connections. I know I have 3 desktops (in different rooms) and a laptop connected to our Internet connection.

To share over a regular phone line you just need a splitter but you would only be able to use the line with one item/computer at a time. 1 phone, 1 laptop or 1 pc.

Over broadband (ISDN) you just need eitehr a wired or wireless modem/router and network cards/wireless network cards.

the easiest way to do this is to buy a wireless router and equip both laptop and PC with wireless network cards. Get a router with plenty of range - wireless signals struggle to go through walls so get one that is much more powerful than you think you need.

there are ways that seem cheaper but you'd be amazed how much a bunch of cables will cost. Plus with wireless you can watch the footie while on Y!A, then take it through to kitchen to cook with online recipes, then take it to bedroom for...

If you have DSL broadband subsciption, you can share the internet. Just buy any split cable or a router to share the internet connection.
You can contact your ISP to ask them how this could be done.
Hope this help.:)

No, you can just share, and if its a broadband connection you can ahve both computers on line at the same time via a router.
