Taxi is the obvious method, but it is probably quite expensive (maybe $100?).
Are there any shuttles?

Renting a car for a day would probably be less expensive than taxis, and would let you stop for a leisurely meal, take a scenic route, do some shopping, and so on. But do you want to do all that driving in a strange city? Traffic in the Miami Airport area is god-awful, with lots of construction delays. And if you get lost, most people won't speak English. So that choice depends on your level of comfort with driving strange roads and your degree of desire to make stops and scenic detours along the way.

There ARE shuttles between Miami Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport. There are also shuttles from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Port Everglades Cruise Terminals. Unless things have changed, there are NOT direct shuttles from MIA to Port Everglades.

Another alternative is TriRail service. This commuter rail line begins 'way up north' near Palm Beach, runs through Fort Lauderdale with a station serving the airport, and then continues down to Miami Airport, where it connects with the Miami Metro commuter rail service. I'd keep a TriRail Schedule at hand, and choose according to comparative length of wait for shuttle vs train. You'd still have to use either shuttle or taxi to get from Ft Lauderdale Airport to your ship.

And yes, it would cost AT LEAST $50 each way (PLUS tip) to take a taxi during daytime hours. (If this will be between 10 pm and 6 am, it will be considerably less, because traffic will be much less.) However -- if you have good communication with your taxi driver, ask for a "flat rate" for your return journey. Some drivers, rather than driving back to Miami with NO passengers, will settle for a lower fee for the return journey. (A Miami taxi cannot legally pick up fares outside of Miami-Dade country.)

Sorry to have such a long answer, but I wanted you to have enough info to make an informed decision.

PS to Jill W. Not if you have a lot of luggage, it isn't!

Call 1-866-386-7433 or 1-954-525-7796 for shuttle info. I have no idea if they run a shuttle from Miami Airport all the way to Ft. Lauderdale cruise terminals.

Call the cruise line and see if they have a shuttle OR ask them their advise on the best way. A one day car rental may work but the location of the drop off would be critical.

If you are going with 3 or 4 people total, rent the cheapest car and park it at the port and split the cost.

Some people also rent a car at FLL and drop off their luggage at the port, then return the car at MIA, and take a shuttle or taxi.

About Tri-Rail... you have to take a bus from the FLL terminal (go outside and wait for the bus)... board the train with your bags and travel to the MIA airport .. this may involve another short bus ride. And you're still not at the port! Then you can catch a cab for another trip to the port. Tri-Rail is cheap but doesn't work well with baggage.

Cruises can be expensive; consider spending an extra $20-$30 to ensure that it gets off to a good start.

Take the Tri-Rail. It's good and connects Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Other than that, I suppose you could take taxis to get to the Tri-Rail, or the bus. Up to you.

wow, I can get from Dublin , Ireland to Miami with $250. That's an expensive fare. Rent a car instead, I'm sure you can get it cheaper than $100 a day.
