Maybe YOU have not seen them, but I have. Here in South Australia, the rock pigeon (from Europe, AFAIK) is a feral pest species. They like to "nest" on the sides of multi- storey buildings. I see the young pigeons (called "squabs") on ledges on the sides of tall buildings.

Did you know that these pigeon parents produce a secretion from their crop, called "pigeon milk"? Yes! It IS true!

They feed this to the squab. It grows so fast!!!

Thus, by the time most people notice the squab, it is very fat and well - grown. They are just standing there on a ledge, and not in a nest structure. Unless you watch closely, they seem just like adults .... but cannot fly, yet.

Some folk like to catch these flightless squabs, and eat them. AFAIK, they are a delicacy.

:-)

I've seen baby pigeons. We have homing pigeons at home. They look just like other baby birds only a bit fatter. they're more plump when they're young.

Didn't you ask that question already? Or was that someone else?
They stay in the nest until they are grown. By the time they leave they look like adults, only smaller, so it's hard to tell the difference.
