Outside of the past, the present, and the Future, time in and of itself doesn't exist. It is a unit of measurement; just like an inch on a ruler, someone decided how long an inch was and therefore it became an inch, but how long exactly is an inch. Sure we have a general idea, but if we took every ruler and measured them under a microscope, you would find an inch to be different on every ruler. So to time, other than being a unit of measurement, it doesn't exist. There is no perfect clock that keeps perfect time. If you had 1000 clocks in a room and started them all at once, they would eventually all show different times. Some one decided one day that this is how long a minute is, this is how long, an hour is, this is how long a day should be, etc. Take for example the year 2006AD, it's not like the people in 2006BC were saying next year is going to be 2005. The person who created the calender year system that we currently use, tried to start year zero being the birth of Jesus Christ. Even though he was off slightly by 2 or 3 years based on when Jesus Christ was born and the records showing the Reign of the Roman Kings at the time. Also, before the Solar Calender of 365 days was created, everybody used a lunar Calendar, which by the way still exists is some parts of the world.

Our watches tell us that time moves along at a steady rate but experience shows us otherwise.

Time does indeed fly when you're having fun. I think we've all experienced that. Likewise I'm sure we've all had awkward or embarrassing moments that felt like hours.

Adrenaline is an amazing thing and that can change your perception of time. Meditation can change your perception of time and It can happen with a variety of drugs too.
