Nicolas Cage is a very specific actor. In some films is amazing (Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Face/Off) in others, he is adequate (Con Air, Lord Of War) and in some, well, he just plain sucks (Amos and Andrew). He needs roles that fit HIM, not the other way around.
I really like the guy, but sometimes he tries too hard in roles that he wasn't made for.

I very much agree with one answer, that certain roles fit him. I thought Snake Eyes and National Treasure were excellent. As well as Face Off and Trapped In Paradise. Other roles....not so much. (Con Air was a great story, but John Cusack and John Malkovich stole the show...) I think he has certainly grown as an actor over the years. But I think essentially he either excels in a role or really blows..... still love him though. Plus he has that Elvis fascination like me.

Nick is a very good character actor but great? I'm not so sure about that.

i think hes a good actor though there are some mistakes he has made in his career. i liked face off and con air among many others so i think that hes quite decent

I liked him on Con Air, Face off and Lord of War. He's ggod there.

bring out the dead is abhorrently bad
amos & andrew is one of his best movies, valley girl is really cool, but hes also in that dreadful ghost rip-off with meg ryan, which sucks ***.
