No, racism cannot be eliminated. Racism is made up of irrational and irrevelent thoughts to problems in society. Such as lack of control, jobs, and money; anything really that can make someone feel less superior or unable to do/have what they feel they should belong to them. Kind of a blame game, if someone can't find a job (money issue) they tend to blame immigrants.
Problems that accompany racism seem endless... look at Hitler, he wanted the entire race eliminated. Segregation was a problem with black and whites. Also, racism leads to poor self esteem, lower grades due to being looked down upon, etc etc etc.....

Racism could in theory be eliminated by either killing all people but that's unlikely so it is more than likely that racism will all ways be there after all if it could spring from nothing originally then it could again.

well i hate to tell you this but NO it will never be eliminated. As history has proven over an over again not one race of people can get along very well or just tolerate each other. on the other hand those that have ventured out to cross breed as they call it i commend you people .You are people no matter what color you are. and that's what makes this world so universal i my self am of different races and i am proud of it and i also have children of different races and adopted ones to. until hard nose snobs in society think they are just generations of one race get a clue. society can only hurt society but people from our past and present who don't care what other people think keep mixing it up someday they"ll get it. check out your history books ,and even the bible. history only repeats it self until one day it really wont matter and we can only be called a human race.

One must first understand what Racism is before we can learn to gather knowledge for solutions. Many think Racism is just about colour but it can also be about culture, ethicity and even gender:

There are many problems that accompany racisim but the greatest problem it brings is the lack of understanding regarding their fellow human beings, other person's culture, their thinking, their way of life and when someone does this, it creates borders, barriers, isolation because the ignorance is passed onto their children, within the communities and it can have a devastating consequences.

Racism, is based on fear which stems from ignorance, and ignorance can grow into many branches. The first is hatred which shows the lack of self esteem in a human a being by dealing with any misunderstanding with negative thoughts, prejudices by verbal abuse, by deliberatley mocking someone which can even lower someone else's self esteem and gives this person the perception that all whites or even all blacks are the same. A dangerous thought indeed.

Racism stops one to grasp an understanding of the world, hence, it stops growth with the individual because the world is not made of white people nor is it made of black. Nor is it made of Muslims or Christains, Jews, Buddist or athiest. The world is a tapestry of cultures, weaved with thousands and thousands of diverse cultures, stories, knowledge which the racist is blind and eliminates himself from learning not what a Black person is, but really who she or he is. For when a human being grows to learn more about another culture it also teaches this person about themselves, about their level of tolerance, and a desire to learn about his or fellow man.

Hence, it stops the growth of communities to build bridges instead of barriers. Who sufferrs with Racism. Everyone but moreso, the future generation.

Years ago, racisim was about white and black but now, this has gone even further, which shows the consequences of such a disease. In the culture of Asians, within the community of Pakistanis and Indians, their is indeed a great delima. This very delima is also happening within the Muslim community not because Islam teaches it but because of the elders ignorance who have passed it on to the next generation.

You will experience that many Indians won't marry a certain type of indian who comes from a different so caste. This caste is invented, man made tradition. It is there to seperate the poor from the rich and cause a lot of conflict within the younger generation. It causes a lot of dishonour killings.

If a woman for example wants to marry a man from a low caste man, a man of poor background, of a certain type of family, then she can't. If she does without the consent of the parents, without the consent of her eldest brother, then behind closed doors, we have found, many incidents where she is forced to be married straight away of the family's choice or...killed. There are many stories of such a case.

This is now being challenge by this young generation and more, and more people are standing up because of the divisions it has caused not just amongst communities but families too. Parents become divided, brothers, sisters, relatives become divided due to the caste system. If you go into india, you will see that the caste system pushes down a community, or individuals and this label can stop someone progressing in life so they can have the same right to education, the same right to walking on the same street. Yes this still happens. Also to have the same right to marry anyone from any caste. The right that all human beings have.

We see racism as one thing but we can see it can be divided into different groups. For example:
Prejudice literally means "prejudgement." A prejudice is a preconceived negative opinion or attitude about a group of people.

Stereotype - means "set image". The word comes from the process of making metal plates for printing. When applied to people, stereotyping refers to forming an instant or fixed picture of a group of people, usually based on false or incomplete information. Stereotypes ignore the fact that no two human beings are identical. Stereotypes are often negative.

Discrimination - is anything that has the effect, intentional or not, of limiting the opportunities of certain individuals or groups because of personal characteristics such as race or colour. Unlike prejudice, discrimination is an effect or result, not an attitude. Discrimination sometimes results from prejudice or stereotypes. However, it also comes from the failure, intentional or not, to avoid practices that disadvantage certain groups more than others, when the disadvantage could be eliminated without causing undue hardship.

One of the ways I haven't touched is Institutional or systemic racism which takes form of the practices, customs, rules and standards of organizations, including governments, that unnecessarily disadvantage people because of their race, color or ethnicity. They do not always involve differences in treatment. Educational requirements that are not related to actual job duties are an example.

There are different levels of racism. The first is the level is hate, verbal abuse, full on the person's face. The second is physical which can be formed into a gang organised crime or it can be done individually. Both harm the person emotionally, mentally and can have a lasting damage. It can also shape the one who has been attaccked with behaviour of revenge, hate, anger not just on white or black, but anyone who is not from his or her culture, race or belief. Again, it all depends on the level of the person. If the person is intelligent, comes from a background where tolerance is taught, the effect won't be as strong.

Can it be eliminated. There will always be people with political motives, and communities struggling for power and most of the time, racism is used, and the card of racism is held up. It appens across the board, but with educating not just youths but adults, it can be eliminated to the extent it cannot be seen physically.

It can be done through grafitti, jokes, ethic slurs, and all of these are somtimes ignored because people just don't know how to deal with them. Hence, ongoing training is needed and more practical steps, not theory but practical steps within books, seminars, materials such as DVD, CD of lectures are needed to children's story books to drama plays to teach how one can deal with such negative attitudes.

The thing is, the most powerful method of racism is done silently, meaning; one might get the job because of his colour or religion, but the company will use the law or it's rights, or collective decision that the person is not right for the job, Not all companies do this but this still happens. It might happen through a teacher who silently is racist and harms a student by not giving the student the help he or she needs and can cause emotional and mental harm through words. Words can have great power and imagination, and can last for many years until it is dealt with.

So looking at this, is there something we can all do to work towards eliminating it? Yes, there is. The first is we must not be silent but speak up. By not speaking up, we are helping Racism to exist. It shows that you are giving approval to racism. Some people stay silently and them talk about it but people don't learn until they are confronted in a wise manner. People need to know it is wrong.

If one is a victim then they can help themselves and against the fight of racism by speaking up, reporting it to the authorities, file a complaint and support the officer who is reporting the complaint but making clear what happened.

One can raise awareness and educate people. For example, here is what we can all do to eliminate racisim:

In the community:
Take part in activities marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination every March 21.
Join organizations dealing with issues of racism and human rights.
Suggest that your local newspaper publish a special section on the racial and cultural diversity of your community.
Create a speakers bureau of persons willing to speak about racism and human rights.
Explore ways in which community organizations can work together to promote positive race relations.
Suggest that your community develop a policy statement against all forms of racial discrimination.

In schools:
Object to racist jokes and insults.
Organize an inter-cultural music or film festival.
Invite guests to speak on racism and human rights.
Organize a poster or essay contest.
Show films on prejudice, stereotyping, discrimination and racism.
Examine the contents of television, film, radio and newspapers for stereotypes. Identify and discuss the stereotypes.
Find out about human rights organizations in your area and what role they play.
Suggest that your class or school develop a policy statement against all forms of racial discrimination.

In the workplace:
Object to racist jokes and insults.
Encourage dialogue on racism and human rights.
Organize a lunch time film series.
Encourage human rights awareness at union meetings through guest speakers, films or other presentations.
Examine hiring practices to ensure equality of opportunity for all.
Develop clear policy statements against all forms of racial discrimination and define ways to make them work through cooperation and consensus.

One must have hope that they can eliminate racism or the person, or community or the world can make excuse to not do anything.

Phew! Now, that's an aticle done and loved every minute of it. Hope it helps mate!
