It comes down to human nature and the desire for happiness. People think that by being greedy, stealing from others, and obtaining material or egotistical wealth they can become happy. This only creates more misery in the world and the ones causing the suffering arent really happy. As a control freak, I can tell you that there is a certain amount of satisfaction in being able to call the shots and keeping by back free of daggers, but this only fuels and is fueled by paranoia. Basically people think that they will be happy by having control over others. This is all Buddhist stuff. He had some great ideas, but Im not sure about their ego-less goal. I dont trust strangers enough to work myself into that kind of state. Ok, your point is that its human nature. Human nature is about the kind of attitude that you hold regarding the world around you, including the other people in it. Lets look at this in terms of positive and negative. There is no limit to how bad things can get. Things can decay forever. It's limitlessness makes it vague and formless. There is a limit to how good things can be, realistically. It's actually easier to have definite goals and ideas about how things can be improved. We can all use anger, hate, and ego to our advantages. Have you tried to use warmth, affection, and acceptance to your advantage? It could throw someone not used to dealing with it for a loop. We can train ourselves to be positive. Do we get awards for being the meanest b*tch on the block? It's like attracting flies, which works better vinegar or honey?

Because we're basically self-serving. I actually think it's human nature to look out for onesself first. Even in communist or socialist countries, where everything is supposed to be distributed equally, there are always some people who will try to get more than their share or think their work is worth more than that of others. In our system, there shouldn't be a need for corruption because it allows people to compete and rise to wealth and power, but it still happens because they want "more." Not all people are like that, but most are when it comes right down to it.
