i want to apply for a job which requires website development and correspondence. Can anybody give me some insight as to what the qualifications for this would be or what exactly website development entails?

For website development you should be well versed in HTML as well as PHP and MYSQL. In addition to coding you will need to understand webserver functions and site management.
