after all, how many women get beaten up because their husbands have been smoking? how many people are killed on the roads by drivers who have been smoking? (and i'm not going to mention the destruction of brain cells by alcohol or any of the other diseases and illnesses caused by the stuff)

Because when you are drinking, the alcohol doesn't go into someone else's body. You control where the alcohol goes, unless u get a bit too drunk, then it's a bit hard to control most things. But the point is that with smoking everyone around you is affected by the smoke, they have to breathe it in and they don't have a choice.... think about going into a bar, you can go there and not smoke and not drink, but when you leave you smell like smoke, not alcohol...
that's my theory at least... take it or leave it

First of all, it is not a competition between smoking and alcohol. Secondly, alcohol does not cause more problems. One could drink reasonable, like a glass of wine per day and experience any number of positive effects. However, smoking has no positives whatsoever.
I can't believe I smoked for years. Of all the bone-headed things I've done in my life, smoking was the dumbest. If you or anyone else REALLY wants to quit smoking, e-mail me. I developed a simple easy method guaranteed to work for anybody. It is free, and includes no drugs, patches, or diets.

They are both probably the worst choice of drugs to make legal and so highly available. Smoking probably gets more attention because it's so highly addictive. Pretty much anyone can get addicted to cigarettes whereas most of the people who drink do it for fun and have control over it. Alcohol is a very dangerous drug to make legal because of, like you said, car accidents, violence, and organ damage.

That's why legalizing marijuana could lead to positive results. If it were sold in stores like alcohol is, then normal adults that like to smoke it could have it without having to go to jail and kids would veer towards that rather than start drinking.

Becose the problems with alcohol are due to people using it in exsess.... and it don't harm as many people.

Smoking harms everyone in the room, even more so than the person acutaly smoking, regarless of how much they do it.... just adds up the more they do.

Not many people that drink have drinking problems, and most are smart enugh not to drive when there drunk.......

Everyone that is smoking is hurting people and most know it....

... that is also a bit part about it...

The people that smoke... there killing themselfs and harming others.... and most of them know it, they just don't care. And that makes people mad.

Smoking is visibly bad even if a person takes in moderate amounts, since it spreads out a stink and also smoke... yielding to passive smoking...
also - the crowd i have seen, despises alcoholics more than smokers... by alcholics i mean drunkards... also smokers who are heavy/chain smokers are certainly not cool to hang out with...
