The most dangerous thing about mushrooms is eating the wrong variety. There are thousands of mushroom species and they range from being extremely poisonous to hallucinogenic to edible with no noticeable effects.

Hallucinogens weaken synaptic pathways (thought patterns) allowing for more 'lateral' thinking. Thus logical or linear thinking is more difficult but other new thought patterns emerge. These 'halucinations' are real thoughts but can have fun or disturbing consequences.

Some revel in the fascination of new undiscovered thought territory. Some are terrified. Some don't like this new world of illusions or maybe they don't like to find out that some of their previous thoughts were illusions.

For some it is a positive life-changing experience where they make new associations and new connections that they wouldn't have otherwise come to so quickly. For some it is a severe blow to their psyche. Others quite literally see God. And again this can be exalting for some and terrifying for others.

Some people do it once and never want to do it again. Some people never want to leave the dream world.

You will feel 'dopey' for a day or two afterwards and you might not regain clear rational thought for a week, perhaps ever...

I know lots of people who are 'permafryed' and some of them have never done any drugs.

I did them long ago. As well as LSD.

I think it would take at least 48 hours to pass a piss test, though at the time, nobody was testing for it.

I am not sure anybody is even testing for them now. They are not exactly a main stream drug. Urine tests have to check for specific items. It is not like they can tell what you had for dinner last night.

Heroin, Cocaine, Marijuana, yeah, those they test for.

Short term effects are hallucinogenic. Long term, well I did them 30 years ago and am still here.

They are drugs, and you should treat them as such. My experience with drugs is that you have about a 2 year window to stop using them.

Longer than that, they start to tear you down. I don't think Mushrooms are any different.
