I understand that all Co test their foods on animals.

thank you for the information provided so far, it has opend my eyes to the ways of the organisation. short of making my own food I now realise that i cannot use foods not tested on animals.

I have seen though that some are causing more damage than others to the animals that they test on. In one case i have found one company that has inflicted wounds (via surgery, not beating) on an animal to see how well their foods help heal those injuries.

As previously stated every pet food company "tests" their product on animals but it is WHAT they are testing that becomes the issue. Most of your "family" owned businesses will test for taste, etc. with animals. Which these companies tend to use higher quality, whole fresh ingredients...like Innova, Wellness, Canidae, Evolve, etc. The larger companies like Proctor and Gamble -Iams and Eukanuba, Mars-Pedigree, Heinz-9 lives, Nestle-Purina, Colgate-Palmolive, etc. who own the grocery store and vet foods have all been reported doing tests further to the general taste test. These tests are ingredient specific and tend to include things like testing for appropriate levels of chemical preservatives, dyes, and supplements.
Just ponder this for a moment...why is it that you won't see a family owned, high quality food at a vets office or in a mass store like Wal-mart, etc? It's because these companies do not want to be associated with these mass producers who do things like test on animals and use euthanized animals in their foods and spend huge sums of money on advertising rather then putting it into the quality of the food. It really is a disgrace.

They were bought out by Proctor and Gamble a few years ago - this company is Notorious with animal testing... you can see the link (assuming it still works)

Irregardless though Eukanuba isnt as good of a quality food as it may appear, in some formulas they use by-products which are cheap fillers (beaks feet feathers) and are preserved with a chemical pesticide Ethoxyquin -linked to many health problems) and soy which is a problem for some dogs. They do a fair bit of advertising so the money they make goes into advertising not food quality

Eukanuba and Iams belong to Procter and Gamble, a huge company does animal testing

In this lists you´ll find Companies That Don't Test on Animals/Companies That Do Test on Animals:
http://www.caringconsumer.com/resources_companies.asp

As for an alternative on food there´s a company that makes high quality foods with human grade products
The best of all their products is "Innova EVO dog" by Natura Pet Products, no by-products, grain free amd whats most importand, has low carbs. (much higher quality than Eukanuba)

In the site you´ll also find a store locator

Apparently it is. I had never heard of it before until your question, but just searching for eukanuba animal testing came up with a bunch of hits. FYI: Iams and Eukanuba are the same company according to most of these sites.

Careful of propaganda!!!!!!! PETA is often behind this kind of thing. What animal testing could Iams do on animals??????? They are not doing medical testing. They are I am sure testing food on animals that live in a facility. Purina does that. They have maintained a colony of animals for EVER that they test food on.
I feed Eukanuba and will continue to do so unless I were to see REAL proof of wrong doing.

I have tried the Innova EVO, and the dogs liked it well enough, but they did not tolerate it well.....if you know what I mean!!!!!!

I don't think any company has used Ethoxyquin to preserve food in YEARS!!!!!!! Now they all use Tocopherols, which is similar to Vitamin E. I actually think Science Diet was one of the last to still use Ethoxyquin...maybe they still do. Iams/Eukanuba do not!
Neither use soy. Please know what you are talking about before you answer things that are not true!!!!!!

I give Eukanuba to my new pup. I also gave it to my other dog, who recently died. On Crufts and many other dog shows/ competitions the winner receives a large bag of Eukanuba. This tells us that it is a good brand of dog food and it includes all of the right nutrients and ingredients to keep your dog happy and healthy. Most dog food is animal tested and Eukanuba is too.

Here's a news flash - ALL PET FOOD is tested on animals. Every brand on the shelf performs tests on animals. How else do they know if the ANIMALS will EAT IT? It doesn't matter what the claims are if they dont' eat it.

PeTA can take a flying leap. they do too much with you have to buy *this* food because we say so (not that directly). Fact - I've used Science Diet now and every one of my dogs have reacted badly to it. Why on earth I'd pay $40/bag - I won't. They did find on Old Roy Bits N Bones but I don't like their coats on it. They do best on Pedigree. I've tried several brands over the years - the expensive brands are NO better IMO than the cheaper ones.

Seems like the first one gave a very detailed long answer. However, i think, i also saw a website that includes procter and gamble products that test on animals. But then, I can't remember what website was it, so i'm not totally sure. Ei! can you check your NYC products if what country they're made from. I bought one before, and it says it's made in china. I just feel skeptical with the china-made cosmetics due to the news that they put FORMALINE in their cosmetics, and most of them test on animals. I honestly wanna try their kiss gloss and green concealer but due to that news,i'm holding back. Please email me about it, my email add is available in my profile.

ummm...... OBVIOUSLY the HAVE to test on animals.... They are making animal food, for goodness sake! What do you want them to do? Throw a bunch of ingrediants together and sell it hoping that its the right nutrional balence? Or do you want to feed your dog somthing, have it get sick go to the vet, only to find out the pet food company was guessing?
