You did not state in which programe you wanted to remove the icons. But in most instances it is a case of going into TOOLS or VIEW (as in Explorer) and click on toolbar and then customise.
Hope this helps

Athe menu bar, click View > Toolbar and click whatever icon that you do not want.
Normally icons are shortcuts, you can just delete it without affecting the program. There will be a pop-up asking "Deleting the shortcut only removes that icon. It does not uninstall the program." Programs will be deleted through the Control Panel > Add or Remove Program only.

Right-click on the Taaskbar- Select Toolbar- uncheck all the items which are checked.

If you are referring to the Internet Explorer,
Open Internet Explorer window- Click on View- Toolbars- uncheck all the checked items.

if you are asking about the icons that are down with the time display - ive got btinternet as well and you get that annoying help icon and also slows down your computer

easy done

click start then run and type msconfig . click ok

then click on the startup tab

de-select what services that you do not want starting up when windows starts> click ok then restart your computer - this does not delete them - and this process is totally reversable

hope this helps
