As an American born, naturalized Canadian, living in Canada for the past 40 years, but visiting family a couple times a month in the US, I am going to say Canada. Life seems somehow a lot less stressful in Canada and a lot more laid-back.

As a Canadian, I believe we are happier and less violent than our neighbours to the south. One example would be that we have 7 million guns for 10 million households, which is very close to the per capita guns per household of the US, but a fraction of the shooting deaths. I apologize to my American neighbours for saying that, as I am not one of your usual US bashers that we have up here, but I have traveled quite a bit in the US and I have to tell you, it can be a very scary place to be. On the other hand, you can walk down the worst skid row back alley in any major Canadian city, and nothing is likely to happen to you, except you might slip in some puke, or step on a used needle, but you are not likely to be threatened by anyone. You try that in the US, and you won't be walking out under your own steam, it will be on a stretcher or a body bag.

The canadian way of life seems great but there are many areas of America that are just like that, America is so huge and diverse it is hard to generalise. Ive just holidayed in Vegas, Los Angeles and New York and they were all so different. Id love to live in Santa Monica, California but i couldnt imagine living in New York, great amazing city that it is, it is not for me

I have traveled to Canada many times as a truck driver, and I was always treated with respect and dignity, in the U.S. it was 50/50 as to how I was treated.
