My man Richard. He was just the rawest comic there ever was. He was a straight shooter and wasn't afraid to make fun of himself. I think Chappelle took note of that.

I don't know if it's fair to compare the two, especially since they are from different eras. Richard, with his quick and biting wit and satire, while still maintaining a certain appealing air of innocence, could take the ethnic road with no fear of political incorrectness, and make it so real for EVERYONE, no matter their color. Dave has the same knack for satire, and puts an edge to it that is in step with the times. And they both are/were remarkable at taking everyday situations and leading you past so-called comic "boundaries" to a place of acceptability. I grew up with Richard Pryor, so I have to admit a bias to his genius, but I can't say with any certainty that Dave Chappelle will be any less of a genius by the time he is through.

Richard Prior,...he's legendary and always will be, besides that he was a good actor. In my humble opinion Dave Chappelle is not talented at all. He reminds me of the expression 'cover band', he's a cover comic. I also find him to be very odd

Richard Pryor. He was a pioneer in breaking "everyman" language and cultural barriers in mainstream media.
Dave's funny too. Caught his show a few times in fact, but he'll have to put in some real time to achieve the level of social relevance and honesty that Pryor did.
Pryor could turn a hideously embarrassing incident of his own-that most would try to bury-into one of the most memorable comedic stories of all time. He could and he did. Over and over again.

Richard, because he was an innovator. I'm sure that Dave took a thing or two from Richard. Richard just didn't care, he said what he had to say, no matter who he offended.

I will have to say Richard Pryor because he was the first to give character to objects and point out the human behavior in a comical way. Listen to how he once explained about his heart attack and about his dogs with the burgulars. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,
