Melissa-Pretty decent objectives-but their is no justice in America without conviction. Thousands of lives lost from an unprovoked act of foreign terrorism doesn't afford the American President a lot of pacifist decisions on foreign policy, or acts of war. Retalliation for infringement of peaceful borders will be severe and regrettable. But, since you have a cool head, you would make an excellent ambassador to foreign policy in peaceful times. Remember, you not only represent the living, but the dead in America, and our plight for a free society.

Pup-The American president will be called to duty-for the the good of the entire society. Conspiracy theories have proven to be futile and a waste of taxpayers monies. Rather, such individuals should afford the country worthwhile efforts, at least in rations or provisions, not kicking the country in the crotch while it's limping.

gpel-look up articles involving Tony Blair and the U.N. pre-Iraq war. You will see that Tony Blair was successful in delaying Bush in the beginning of the war, not once, but several times. France proved to be stubborn to the idea of war, disregarding intelligence information, delaying deployment to Afghanistan. This single act, delayed info, that would not have only led to Bin Laden's being detained, but his capture or death. Too much government, is responsible for our current situation in Iraq.

Happy harrytick-nice plan, good thinking
plan #8 might just need to be revised to right to bare arms and protect-which already exists-but maybe not on a national level. It must cover border states, no exceptions-and border patrol would still have to be beefed up to prevent vigilante or militia groups. Great answer

1) Track down the individuals directly responsible for 9/11 and remove them from the planet. The cheapest way possible, for instance - bullets are cheap.
2) Review foreign policy, in particular monetary aid and cut off the bastard countries that hate us.
3) When applicable - Fix the problems in our foreign policy that make no sense anyway. If it only serves a minority and pisses off a majority, It's gone.
4) Use the patriotism generated after the attack to justify deportation of religious radicals from the country. (like Pat Robertson and that ahmed'whatcha call it guy)
5) Outlaw all forms of government lobbying; They may not use money and can only use jellybeans.
6) Write an executive order that states no politician can serve more than one term - no exceptions. No political term can be longer than 4 years.
7) Executive order: Make contributions by entities other than citizens illegal and limit the amount to $5,000 per year to one political party or candidate.
8) Give weapons to citizens with land on US borders, teach them how to use them safely and give them license to shoot at whatever moves across our border illegally.

Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about politics and foreign affairs, etc., but I hope you enjoy my answer.
Step One: Having the information beforehand that terrorists were planning an attack on the world trade center on 9/11 I would have had made sure no one would be in that building on that day. If I had to make up some excuse to keep the building empty and avoid panic - I would have. If I could avoid letting those terrorists ram planes into buildings I would have, but if there was no way to stop them I would have a speech prepared for the country to explain the situation.
Step Two: Begin a nationwide search for all illegal immigrants living in America and deport the ones I found while increasing security at our nations borders.
Step Three: Question all immigrants that applied for citizenship within the last five years. If i had to make up some excuse to make these interrogations seem less like an interrogation and more like a routine check up to avoid suspicion - I would have.
Beyond that - I don't know. It would depend on what happened after all the questioning.
I'll say again - I'm just an average American and have no education in the area of politics and world leadership, etc.

At the time shortly after 9/11....many countries sympathized. this was the perfect time to create an international coalition against terrorism. Once it was known al-queda in afghanistan was responsible.....taliban controlled government would've been 1st in my sights for retaliation...i'm sure a coalition could easily have been formed.....thus the probability of rooting bin laden out would've/could've been acheived. ALL borders would be closed indefinetly, military posted in airports, sea ports etc. Bush senior was able to form international coalition against Iraq, perfect time to put pressure on Iraq....just with mere threat of international pressure (again), perhaps stronger sanctions and pressure from international community could've avoided an AMERICAN only occupation....not alienate other nations. I would not have been so trigger happy as was Bush....instead, diplomacy and more well thought out strategies, especially when America had many nations on their side just after 9/11. THAT....a little more patience....a little more intelligence gathering and a lot more diplomacy and things could/would be different. (I'm not talking about years of diplomacy, patience etc.) however, remember that Al_queda's 'years' of patience (unfortunately for usa) paid off for them on 9/11. Well thought out plans and strategies on an international stage would've been the way to go.

Same-EXCEPT: Did you know many businesses in the Trade Center were sellers of the famous address like sub-rentals? Like mail box drops with the Trade Center address. And, one direct fraud discovered as a result of the attack was the entirely fictitious nature of the holders of a single Australian investor's 37 million dollar investment, and the supposed investment company's headquarters were in the building? I would have have launched a massive investigation into this, and began informing the public on discovered information and possible tie-ins to the American public six months after the attack. Of course, the ethnicity of the actual hijackers was known, so no mistake there.

I wouldn't have went to war with Iraq.
I would have went after Bin Laden/Al Qaida
I would have cooperated with other countries with intelligence to find him instead of hastily going to war.

Being as technology oriented as the US is we will always be looked at as the bully. No matter how bad the other guy is by definition he is the underdog. The only way the US can fight now is by black bag operations. Too bad Watergate killed the black bag groups.
