I think the main point of parents preventing their kids from watching violent movies, hearing curse words, or any other type of censorship is to keep their children from corrupting their minds. However, the children will find out eventually, so why prevent them in the first place?

Childhood is a magical time that only lasts for a few brief years out of an entire lifetime. Exposing them to the violence and language that is out there does not help them grow and mature as individuals, but rather it desensitizes the mind to these things. For the very young, it can be traumatizing and I have know children that were afraid to go to bed at night because they had seen something scary on the news. They were afraid that someone was going to come break into the house and hurt them. Depending on the age and temperament of the child, he may not have the emotional maturity required to handle certain things. Many children will repeat the language they hear on tv, especially the four letter words. Censoring things until children are older and have better judgment in their actions is the responsible thing for a parent to do.

Well up until the age of around eight my mum made sure I would not watch anything that would scare or upset me, after that I would walk out of the room if something made me scared. As for music I've always been able to hear what I want, but make sure if they're under eight songs shouldn't have really bad words or they'll go to school and say them. It all depends on the maturity of the child, if a child is prone to repeating bad words it'll probably be better to censor what they listen to. As well as if your child gets scared/sad easily or has nightmares check how scary/ emotional a movie is before hand.

I believe parents are missing the point. Television, movies, music etc give parents a perfect chance to really understand their children's emotions. Moreover the movies are a conversational topic starter only were discussing the irrelevant parts....

the only thing is that its the parents last effort to keep their children from things that they think could be bad for their children. dont question that.....its tough to be a parent...when they find out anyway the only thing that a parent can do is sit and be open to their kids...what makes thing worse that because the parents are not comfortable with their kids and vise versa the entire thing takes such a bad turn...

Moral of the story ....Parents: Be your kids FRIEND.......kids: your parents love you and are concerned so be OPEN MINDED
