Baseball, football, basketball, and even hockey has continuosly had more exposure than soccer. In the early 1900s, baseball and football were all the US citizens cared about. Naturally, young skilled athletes would gravitate to these sports. The US soccer players are all pretty average athletes. If the US had the same exposure to soccer that a lot of other countries had early on, then stud athletes like Terrell Owens, Tom Brady, LeBron James, would have put all their abilities into soccer, but that's just not were the $$$ lies in the US.

Because the newspaper that sponsored the series was called the world - hence world series, could have been the guardian series, but that name has stuck Basketball is a wicked sport, I wish we played it here more, I think it's probably the best sport in the world. Baseball is cool, not much different in boredom factor from cricket, and American football which should be called throw ball due to the absence of using feet, is actually the nuts too - a lot better than rugger And with cricket, snooker, darts etc... there's plenty of sports we play that the Yanks don't, and there's no problem with that, as long as we, and they, enjoy them..... I think it's sad that there's nothing to do in England but watch footie, I wish I could watch a big basketball game every night I wanted to, or an American footie game ... or something in the summer, instead of Durham v Glamorgan with 120 spectators and no atmos!

How right you are deano.
For the 2 Muppet's who left messages.
The USA ain't in the world cup they went out in the first round.
The sport is FOOTBALL not soccer, the English Invented the game and named it Football.
The thick, arrogant, big headed yanks think they can take over everything, even renaming the worlds most played/watched sport!!!!!!
Rid the world of Yanks.

Because they couldn't stand not winning. Hence rugby, with 5 tons of protective armour, and baseball, a game where if you play it here, your opposition would be 10 year old girls.
They know that football belongs to Europe (actually that's unfair, I've heard that there's a couple of teams called Brazil and Argentina that are supposed to be O.K.) An don't like to play with anyone else in case they lose, ah bless!
Let's just leave them to it, or send our rugby lads over to play them at American Football. They'd crush them!!

because we can. besides i think our soccer team sucks. im supporting brazil. i don't remember why it's called the world series but i do know that it's not because we think we're the world. soccer is just not that popular here. i watch it sometimes.
HERES A BETTER QUESTION: WHY DO YOU KEEP CALLING US YANKS?it frikking annoying.
Sua: we already have a sport named football. think about it. i totally agree that the us should stop trying to take over everything. i think we have quite enough problems in our own country.
