Biotech comapies have the capabilities to discover human proteins, monclonal anti-bodies as well as small molecule drugs. Thus able to cover a wider range of diseases. They are also venturing into Biomarkers to aid diagnosis. Also biotech companies are newer and much more daring with their pipelines as opposed to big pharma which are mostly 100 year old companies located in the East Coast. Biotech companies usually have the small biotech spirit alive even after they market billion dollar products. It's a really fun atmosphere to work in and they treat their employees very well. They usually get top ranks in "America's Best Places to Work." Big Biotech companies usually have extremely good health benefits, 401K plans, very generous stock options and year end bonusses, they also provide their employees with flex schedules, onsite daycare, executive standard gyms, and a lot of events that serve a lot of free alcohol :)
