I know this is a simple game to program because I've seen it other times on the internet, but I have no idea how it works.

The program assigns the glyph to all multiples of 9.

This is how it works mathematically:

You're choosing a number from 1-100. Let's call this number 10a+b where "a" is the tens digit and "b" is the ones digit.

Now you substract the sum of the numbers from the original #:

(10a+b) - (a+b) = 9a

Therefore, you'll end up with a multiple of 9. Notice how every multiple of 9 in the chart is the EXACT SAME sign.

And that's how it works.

Of course, pluging in some numbers like "21" will give negative results, which is a flaw of the program.

No matter what number you pick, the result is going to be a multiple of 9. If your number is 31, add the 3 and the 1 to get 4. Subtract 4 from 31 and you get 27. A multiple of 9. If your number is 73, do the same as before and you'd end up with 63. A multiple of 9. It's the same with every number. Now, as for how it can guess the symbol, every multiple of 9 on the board is the same symbol. It just changes which symbol is on the multiples of 9 each time you play. That's all there is to it.

o.k. if you look at every number that is divisable by 9 it will always have the same mark.

Now if you take any number and subtract the 2 numbers to make that number it will always be divisable by nine.

examples: 32 (3+2=5) 32-5=27 which is divisable by 9

87 (8+7=15) 87-15=72 again divisable by 9

it's just a mathematicall trick. It took me 3 times to see it.

The same symbol is used for all multiples of 9(9,18,27,36,45,54,63,72,81) and the subtracting of the numbers gives you a multiple of 9...

When you do it, it's always a multiple of 9. All the multiples of 9 have the symbol they show.
