I don't really like the sound of that mixture. For one thing, they probably aren't getting the nutrients they need. Secondly, it sounds like they may be getting too much water and dying because the roots are not getting enough oxygen and rotting. Pete moss will hold a lot of water. You need some compost to go along with the pete moss and perlite. The mixture should be composed mainly of compost with perlite and pete moss composing together less than about 30% of the mixture.

I'd recommend planting them in a potting mix if in a pot or regular garden soil if in a garden.

Sounds like to much water. Tomatoes are tough put them in the ground with a little lime.
