I'm certain the most people who are not wealthy would be made very happy by a sudden gift of $200,000. I know I would. I am an educated, hard-working person who teachers foreign language at a 4-year university and yet who only earns $15,000 per year and receives no benefits, not even health insurance. I'm a fairly happy person now, but I'm extremely stressed about my finanial situation. I love my job, and I know I am needed and respected. I also know that being a university professor allows me to be able to pick up and take my kids to school, which is important since I'm divorced. But $15,000 a year with no health insurance simply isn't enough to survive for long.

If I received $200,000, I could pay off the $2,000 in credit card debt I've charged up paying for car repairs, health costs, and other unexpected costs in the last year. I could also invest money in a home for me and my family, and in college funds for both my children. $200,000 would make me immensely happy!

As to whether money makes people happier in general, I think it depends on their current situation. If they're already wealthy and unhappy, a bit more money won't make a difference. If they're poor and can use the money but have problems such as drug abuse or a lifestyle of crime, chances are that the money won't make them happy, either. But if they're relatviely happy except for the stress of being poor, then $200,000 will go a long way towards making them a happier, healthier, more productive human being.

They'd be happy until the $200,000 was gone.
Solomon did truly have the most wisdom any man could have other than God, when he said in Ecclesiastes 10:19 "money is the answer to everything."
Truly, though money can become an irritating thing, these days it seems truly impossible to do anything that will bring physical change, unless money is offered.
You cannot heal a starving person unless you offer them food.
Who the crap decided we needed such an evil?

I would definitely by happier. Out of debt and less stressed. Therefore you could say that not only does money make people happier it can help them to have a less stressful life and even live longer. It is not how ever the answer to all problems. If I had to choose between true love and money I would keep my man!

I'll answer your question with a question. Does getting a bi-annual bonus at work make you work harder, does getting a raise at work make you work harder???
The answer is no!!!!!
If anything you end up working SMARTER!!
The question becomes what is the smart thing to do with $200,000 dollars (how will it make your life better)

I don't know on average, but I know about me. I would not be happy with $200,00...I need much more to be happy. My life would be wonderful If I needed less, but I need much more. When I get all I consider enough, I think I will be happier.
Or I get all or nothing....

Why do people always say money does not buy happiness? That is such a load of crap. More money = more oppurtunities to find things that make you happy.

It would help reduce stress about paying bills, but I don't think it would make you any happier.
