They say you choose to be gay and we all say no that isn't true. So do they think we are all lying to them or something? Do they think we're all part of some conspiracy to trick them? Are they all that obtuse?

Speaking as a former Christian homophobe, I may be of some help. Paul says in 1 Cor 6:9,10, "neither the sexually immoral...nor homosexual offenders...will inherit the kingdom of God." (We will ignore the fact he says in 1Cor 10:5 that a woman's prayers don't count unless her head is covered.)
My guess is that since homosexuality is an "abomination" before God, that makes it a sin, and a sin is a choice a person makes (despite the fact all men are doomed from the Garden of Eden to sin; insert free will vs. predestination argument here). So in order for the dogma to work, homosexuality HAS to be a choice. If God MADE a person that way, the whole religion would collapse in on itself because those people would not be able to qualify for God's grace and He would, in effect, be creating people destined for damnation, negating the statement that "everyone who believes in him may have eternal life." [John 3:15]
So, yes, they are all that obtuse. Until, like me, they get over their fear and talk to and *gasp* befriend a homosexual. You know, what Jesus would do.

I'll go with the obtuse option. I mean, to be fair, you've gotta block out some of the things you hear every day, or how confused would you be?! You wouldn't know who to vote for, who to pray to, who to have sex with! (lol) It's just that they have already made up their minds, and believe we are all under the same delusion the christians think the atheists are under, and the democrats think the republicans are under... Also, having no first-hand experience, and believing acquiring such experience is wrong, they can never truly grasp what it feels like to be persecuted, and can only be converted by patient people that are close enough to them to help mold their opinions.
Have a pleasnt day.

you are presuming that these experts on human sexuality, who studied long and hard the works of James Dobson, who studied long and hard the opinions of James Dobson, who said that it's a choice. Let me ask you this. Has anyone ever asked a gay person, "DID you choose to be gay?" I believe I've only heard, "WHY did you choose to be gay?"
I'm say this once again.
Gay is a state of being, it is not an activity. I am wired in my head to consider men as potential sexual interests, rather than women.
Being gay is not a choice. I may or may not choose to act upon those feelings. If I do not act upon those feelings, I do not stop being gay.
If I choose to not act upon those feelings, based on the opinion of others who do not understand my position, I'm an idiot, and I'm condemning myself to a hellish existence for no good reason, except to make someone happy who obviously doesn't care how happy I am.

Hey, I am gay, and when I tune in those religious programs, just to see what's going out to the sheep who listen (they use the word "flock" don't they?) and Rev. Dobson shows his face, I'm reminded I am human, and he's pretty well put together. Yup, I pound one out to James Dobson. I'm like that.

Your question is based on the premise that Homophobes think! The question creates an oxymoron! Homophobes are pitiable humans who have been cursed by irrational, consuming hate for a huge group of people they know nothing about. I strongly suspect they spend a lot of time and energy hating many other things also. To waste so much energy is the real sin...time is precious, and to waste one second of it is a second we will never have again. Think of an entire life consumed with hate and fear, loathing and insanity...THAT is very scary. Homophobes are not scary, they are just silly.

Gays use the typical hate/ignorance/homophobe rhetoric when describing peeps who don't approve w/their sodomizing each other and flaming it around like it's some kind of trend. They do this because they have no other way to advocate their cause; all they can do is run down the peeps that don't agree w/them!

Then they'll cite other verses from the bible to counter the ones christians drop on them. They'll say sh!t like the bible says don't judge, they do this ignoring Leviticus 20:13.

They are totally polarized in their view of "straight" peeps like we are of them

tkdiety, you used the phrase "long and hard" twice in the same answer when referring to James Dobson. Are you sure you aren't really, really, gay???

lucy_ritter, you have a decent argument, but you left out the whole "jesus saved us from our sins" part after the doomed in the garden of Eden part, but Benny Hinn probably didn't tell you that as you were flopping on the floor getting the bad spirits out of you on nat'l TV.

It's because the homophobes are attracted to guys but choose not to act out on it, that's why they call it a choice. The real straight guys don't give a f*ck because they are too busy checking out some hottie.

Anyone who is a "homophobe" is likely too busy being scared of gays to base a paranoia on lying. Focusing on the inherent flaw of the term homophobe.

No one is born "gay", that is a personal choice they make to disobey GODS law. Next time you try to use a big word to try to look intelligent, try to know the meaning yourself.
