I'm asking this because I saw a poster by the road yesterday which said "This poster will still be here tomorrow but will this child?" and I thought ... I can't be bothered to read the rest of the ad because all they are doing is trying to manipulate my emotions to get money either for their charity or to sell their product. A short while later I realised that there are a lot of ads that are based on emotove issues so I am wondering now if we have become hardened to other people's suffering because of all the marketing we have to handle.

Any thoughts anyone?

BINGO!!! By George, you've got it!! the trick is to get people emotionally hooked on your product, charity, cause, etc. and they will give you the shirt off their back in order to make themselves feel better. the guilt trip. but that trick will only work a limited number of times before people say " what a load of crap!" and turn it all off.

actually that is not because of marketing. marketing is actually building profitable customer relationship. as in satisfying customers needs. the marketing concept starts with the people in mind and ends with the people. yes thet company makes profit but the company also upholds their social responsibility, some percentage of the profit still goes to the child as in ur example. so it is still helping the child in question. just think of it in a different angle. imagine ithout that poster you might not even know that child is in need rite. well this is my perspective see things on the positif side. but i might be wrong i am only 17. anyway thanks for answering my remuneration question it was big help.

Yes you are on to something. Advertising and marketing are everywhere and definitely contribute to the cynicism and stupidization of this country. Business types will tell you that it's all about making money, and unfortunately, that's true. Makes me wish for the good old days when all we had to worry about was nuclear war.

Nope. Selfishness and greed has been there ever since the beginning of time, pretty much as old as lust and prostitution as profession (dont ask me to explain this). Contemporary marketing has got nothing to do with it. Quite the contrary in fact, its mostly the reason for marketing.

No. Its not marketing. I think there is a big disconnect today versus 20+ years ago due to the rising competitive force to be successful at any cost.
