I usually get to the dump befpre this happens, but am a bit behind, you could say. My garbage is stacked all neatly along the garage inside wall, but I know that neatness has nothing to do with it. Time is the factor here. Alright troops! Listen up! A few flys did the dirty deed in a garbage bag and now we have our very own 2006 Maggot Convention in session as I speak, under the roof of this garage. Is there anything I can do to kill them before I can get to the dump in about six hours?

Thanks for your time. . .

Matt

Honestly, I wouldn't bother. The only improvement is to try to prevent emerging flies from escaping the trash.

If you can cover the trash or put it in a double bag, so the emerging flies can't escape, great.

You will be going to the dump in six hours. The maggots will go with the trash. Any flies that have hatched will be looking for food to lay eggs in. It will be gone, so the flies will look elsewhere, or die.

After the trash is gone, then clean up any leaks.

Next time, I would keep putrefying trash in a separate, tightly covered container. Other trash, such as paper, wood, plastic, won't support insects, so plastic bags will still be adequate.

I've also listed a site below for good nontoxic pest solutions.

When you remove their food source they will die. Drag the trash outside.
