Generally it's a sexual encounter. Not necessarily having sex, but definitely something sexual going on. It's never been used to describe a love relationship, that I know of.

I think it depends on the situation, the people etc. Most of the time i have heard it, it meant having sex, no strings attached. But other times it can be as simple as hooking up with your friends and going to see a movie.

In some area it means, to get together, like lets hook up for some coffee, or hook up and go to the movies.

ok hook up is def not a relationship..not that i have hooked up, i just know. it can mean anythin foolin around (usually havin sex) without the committment of a relationship. its stupid
