Freemasonry is a fraternal organization whose membership is held together by shared moral and metaphysical ideals and—in most of its branches—by a constitutional declaration of belief in a Supreme Being.

The fraternity uses the metaphor of operative stonemasonry, and the tools and implements of that craft, to convey these ideals.

Freemasonry is defined in the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica and the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia as: A peculiar (some say particular or beautiful) system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. This definition is illustrated in the 1991 English Emulation Ritual.

It is an esoteric society, in that certain aspects are private; Freemasons have stated that Freemasonry has, in the 21st century, become less a secret society and more of a "society with secrets." Most modern Freemasons regard the traditional concern over secrecy as a demonstration of their ability to keep a promise and a concern over the privacy of their own affairs. "Lodge meetings, like meetings of many other social and professional associations, are private occasions open only to members." The private aspects of modern Freemasonry deal with the modes of recognition amongst members and elements within the ritual.

While there have been many disclosures and exposés dating as far back as the eighteenth century, they usually lack the proper context for true understanding, are soon outdated for various reasons, or are garnished with unfounded speculation on the part of the author. In reality, Freemasons are proud of their true heritage and happy to share it, offering spokesmen, briefings for the media, and providing talks to interested groups upon request.

Masonic orders DID start out as actual brick-layers. In the 1600s-1700s, Masonic lodges (kinda like the union meeting house for all the masons to get together--a brick-laying country club) became a fashionable place for intellectuals to gather (17th century Starbucks). They hung out in those lodges so often, the actual masons left, leaving the intellectuals (people like Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, George III, and John Paul Jones) to talk about science, mathematics, architecture, alchemy, history, etc. and it basically became a semi-secret society (people knew they existed, but the knowledge they possessed was unknown to outsiders).

Ah, the History Channel.

Freemasonry is a fraternal organization that contributes millions of dollars a day to Charity. They have "Secret" Rituals that are plastered all over the Internet. We are not satanists and are not trying to take over the world. It takes us months to go through committees to buy anything. The only historical fact is most of our founding fathers were masons and we owe our freedom to them.
You cant talk intelligently about something you don't understand and any crackpot can put any lies about a great organization.
That makes good men better. Lastly contrary to popular belief we are a group dedicated to god that does alot of good. I should know I'm 32 degree.

Google 'Freemasons'. Freemasonry is FULL of lore, speculation, conspiracy theories, and the like. Some say they control the world (if so, they will have to decide between themselves and all of the other secret societies who is actually in charge), but most likely it's just another club full of members patting each other on the back, congratulating each other on how cool they are.

wikipedia>>
A mason is a worker in brick or stone. Brick masons, also called "rough masons" or "row masons" have never been accorded the higher status reserved for stonemasons. Brick masons are most commonly involved in building walls of brick or rough, unfinished stone. But stonemasons (also called "freestone masons" or "freemasons") work in carefully finished quarry stone and build finely crafted arches and vaults. See Masonry, stone mason.

Masons only lay brick to build houses, building, etc.

As to the conspiracies about them, they often go to the government or private companies to get contracts to build various things at an insane price to keep themselves working. Some even have lobby groups rallying for their cause of reconstruction in several areas of the country.

It is also common for those in power to award business to "buddies" or "campaign financiers" to erect building, homes, etc...again at insane prices, at the taxpayer's expense

A.K.A...corruption
