howcome homosexuals are so quick to call people homophobic, when i express that i don't like one they assume it's because they're gay and call me homophobic, how does that make me homophobic, maybe i just don't like you as a person and not because you're gay, but noooo, i have to be homophobic, i really think this expression is over used and you need to think before you say it, really. (i know i'm generalizing right now, but i don't support prejudice in any form) answer the ?plz

to bowery girl, i know i generalized for the sake of making a statement, but i'm not against gays, i'm sorry if i didn't state my question correctly, i didn't mean to sound prejudice, i tried to think before i said it but it's kind of difficult not to offend anyone while trying to prove my point, but i also feel that i should be able to say i don't like you without having to defend myself, what happened to straigt peoples rights?

to beavis: thank you, this actually was more than one occasion, that's why i'm generalizing, i wouldn't make a statement for something that happened one time with one person.

A lot of people get tired of real homophobes bashing them that they become very defensive when anyone is not totally accepting of them.

That being said, I hate it when people play the gay card just as much as when they play the race card. I had a girl who is the biggest b*tch I know tell me I didn't like her because she was Mexican. I could care less if she's Mexican, black, Chinese, or an alien - she's a f*cking b*tch.

I know what you mean, is what I'm trying to say. : )

Also, I got very irritated when a boy who was either crossdressing or transgendered tried out for American Idol, and when they wouldn't take him, said it was because he sang a "girl song" and tried to be a girl. No, dude - you can't sing. Stop blaming your attributes for your flaws.

Honest and open communication is the only solution for your problem - tell these people what your problem with them is, making it clear that you don't appreciate being labled as a homophobe when you're not.

Have a pleasant day.

Do me a favor, read back what you just wrote back to yourself. You are saying Homosexuals are so quick to judge a person homophobic. This upsets you because you feel you are unjustly being categorized. You say you don't support prejudice of any kind, however you did exactly the same thing here. You had an incident with 1 person, 1 human being made up of many parts, one just happening to b gay, they were quick to use homophobic as the reason and you feel unjustly judged. Now how do you think every homosexual who reads this will feel, people u never met. You are unjustly categorizing them by saying Homosexuals, meaning all. You ran into 1 that for whatever reason used that as their excuse for you not liking them. Maybe they are young, still insecure, confused...the list is endless. It is hard enough for young people these days to get thru H.S., their towns or cities, college without having being homosexual on their plate as well. It is not easy for some, Fortunately their is more tolerance or at least more places for someone to go and talk and feel OK with themselves. But back to the ? You just basically said all gay people think you are homophobic, and it's not true. Well the fact is you don't know 1/3rd of the gay community so you are wrong to say they are so quick to assume.....because THEY did not 1, person did. The only person i see here quick to assume is you. If more than a few people used that word toward you, maybe you shouldn't be looking at them for the answer, maybe you should be looking in yourself. I believe you when you say you don't support prejudice, however this entire statement was derrogatory, and could have been taken offesively by some.
Good Advice for everyone THINK B4 U SAY, including you.

Whoa! Back up here. IF you dislike Gay people you do not know, you have a phobia and it is specifically called, Homophobia. If you do not like a specific person and he/she is gay, it is call dislike. But then, I know several straights and several gays I do not particularly like...I am neither homophobic or Straightophobic. A phobia is an unreasonable dislike or fear of something..the key word here is UNREASONABLE. Those who wish to spout obscure verses in scripture need to examing thier lives a little more and judge others a lot less. There are FAR more scriptures that condemn unreasonable judgement in the bible than a rare (very rare) verse dealing with homosexuality. IN fact, the only real admonishment is from a book that has been, by and large, discarded from the bible as being ridiculously prejudicial. And, it is funnier that in the same book, it would seem that just about everything is verboten, but the eating of lobsters, when and how to make love, ...all these things are ignored..only the "homsexual part" seems to be valid in many Christians minds. That is more than convenient..it is an out and out phobia based on the preposterous.

Bowery Girl

Do ME a favor, and explain to everybody how you came to the conclusion that an isolated incident, in and of itself, could be coincidentally repeated numerous times in succession on the same topic on this very site??? Apparently you have not read answers to any other questions on this site regarding the controversial subject of homosexuality, otherwise you would know that people DO use the "homophobes" rhetoric.

Plus how can you assume that Honey Bear only had 1 incident with someone like you yourself said? Maybe she had a disagreement with a gay person or maybe multiple people. You CAN disagree with more than one straight or gay person at a time: OOPS there I go categorizing or discriminating! Left-Wingers have so many names for the human nature of categorizing using logic!

Do you know Honey Bear How can you assume that somebody feels that they have been unjustly judged? Are you some kind of Internet mind-reader? You pulled alot from the script on this question.

Plus, how the heck can a homosexual be unjustly judged by being called a homosexual when that's the lexicon for that type of behavior?? Sorry, everybody judges, even you and me.

THINK B4 U SAY

Sometimes you can't take everything people say to heart, especially people online, even though it's hard. I'm not quick to call anybody homophobic, I don't really believe in homophobia, I think it's an excuse for ignorance.
You gotta think, there are a lot of people that come on the gay message boards and here into this section to bash gays and bis, and say a lot of horrible things. So yes, automatically, sometimes a few people get bent out of shape, and assume all kinds of crazy stuff.
I'm sorry they're beating up on you though, that's not right at all :(

O to call you homophobic is a widely used cop out because the gay community can't handle someone that takes a stand.

It's the only defense they have to lash out at straight people with, so everybody that doesn't support homos or doesn't like them are either homophobes, ignorant, rednecks, bible bashers, etc.

They might say it comes from being treated that the way they are, well we gotta live with the CHOICES we make, so............

Gays jump to that b/c in this day and age, it's easier to sue someone than to talk to them and find out what their intentions are. With people like Louis Farrakhan, Al Sharpton, & Jesse Jackson screaming their heads off whenever they think African-Americans are being put into slavery again, and the ACLU screaming their heads off whenever white people do anything, Gays scream their heads off whenever they feel attacked, just like everyone else does.

I just think when you say you don't like gay people then they have the right to say you are homophobic as it was your right to cast stones and judge their personal choice. My advice is get of your high horse and look around its not 1770s.And to the comment of the person who sad God will judge them well karma is a ***** and you be the one judge.

Well did you ever explain to people you just hated the person? Let me guess. I bet you said "I hate this guy I know so much and he's gay guy" Well I'm sorry you have such a poor choice of words. And hey I guess the word racist is over used isn't it? Why do minorities use it so much? I hate a guy and he happens to be Hispanic so I MUST be racist. God it is so way over used.

Huh. Good point. I think gays are afraid of gaybashing and may over-react by labeling you. Reverse discrimination; just like I may not trust a particular Black person, but if I said that to my friend, that labels me racist. (see the first 10 minutes of the movie Crash)
Thanks for the food for thought.
