My husband and I have three dogs. I wish to have none. He thinks we should always have three. I hate it, they are so much work.

It depends on the perspective... Personally I LOVE dogs and in an ideal world could never have too many. However, three dogs means three times the food, three times the vet bills, three times the maintenance, etc. If you have the time and money, great! Way to give three of man's best friends a great home! :) Some people also say that three dogs are a good idea because while you are giving attention to one of them, the other two can play with each other. HOWEVER, three can be a crowd in the sense that, in some breeds, it tends to incite pack behavior. Sometimes one or two dogs won't chase a cat or the neighbors chickens, but add a third and you get competition and fuel instinct. Caution is wise if you have larger breeds, especially if they are disposed towards hunting or herding.

Buuuut I think your question has less to do with the dogs and more to do with reaching an agreement with your husband. Maybe you should sit down with him and discuss why you would prefer not to have so many, and ask him why they are so important to him. If he is very attached to these dogs, asking him to give them up can be liking asking him to send his "kid" packing. If you aren't a dog lover it can be difficult to understand the bond that can form. If he does insist on keeping all three, maybe you should insist (or *ask*) that he do most of the upkeep, since they are mostly HIS pets. Try to be understanding and reach an amicable compromise.

Good luck!

if they are three large dogs and you live in an apartment , yes .. if they are small , no ... mainly people will get a second and third dog so the first dog can be entertained with the other dogs .. hence they get more play from each other and you don't have to spend ALOT of extra time with them and they aren't lonely . one dog alone walks around in confused lil puppy circles with what to do with herself while she waits for play and walks ..

If he wants to have dogs, tell him to take care of them. Three dogs is okay if you have a big enough house and have enough food to feed them and if you have enough time to give them some attention every day.

If they are so much work, then yes you probably have one or two too many. To take care of them, you have to work as a team. Good luck.

They shouldnt be your total responsiblitiy. Since he feels it necessary to have them in the first place....Then he needs to help care for them as well.
