Self righteousness implies moral superiority and as such it is my belief that this is a human trait that crosses political boundaries but is particular to people and groups that exhibit pathological hatreds.
Personally, my morals are neither superior nor inferior to anyone else's. They are mine and mine alone. Finally, I would ask that if a person is going to make rational decisions that they should know how to think for themselves.

I'm fiscally conservative and socially liberal but I almost always vote republican becuz DEMS criticize GOP but never offer better solutions, they just repeat their rants over and over. The GOP has their faults to but they know what they want and their party in is consensus for the most part.
I think that is the problem with DEMS, their a party of smaller special interest such as Trial lawyers, environmentalists, civil rights, gay rights, and pro-choice people. The GOP is made up to 2 blocks, the far right church conservatives and the small g-ment/pro-business block (There are a few in between such as Neocons such as W).

The religious right is all about getting government into our personal lives and telling us with so much certainty who to love, how to love, and why we should love (procreation only!! unless your poor). It is the republicans, who are controlled by the religious right, who preach endlessly about morality, self-sufficiency, and the market is the answer to everything. They WROTE the book in self-righteousness. They even have the coconuts to preach to us that the ultra-rich are somehow victims?!?!
Republicans preach against homosexuality, birth control, abortion, drugs, single motherhood, poor people, etc.
Someone suggested that liberals are tolerant of terrorists which is absolutely absurd. During the Clinton administration, except for democrat Gary Hart's bi-partisan report on terrorist threat, there was not a peep from one single republican to do anything about terrorism. In fact, republicans thought impeachment over lying under oath about a sexual affair was more important than doing a single thing to protect this country. When Bush came into office, he thought it was more important to push tax cuts, and the doomed missle defense, than doing a single thing about keeping us safe from terrorist threats. So don't even go there. BTW, no one sympathizes with serial killers.
Both sides express outrage. I just think that liberal priorities have their hearts in the right place because they fight for working people, marginalized people, the environment, education, families, children, a more responsible role in the world, and for long range planning instead of short term profit over people. Liberals have their blind spots and really need to work on stating their case, but they really do have better set of priorities.
As a liberal, I merely state what I believe and state why I disagree with what others believe. As a liberal I will defend everyone's right to openly debate in the marketplace of ideas.
Freedom of belief is what liberalism is about, but there is also freedom to hold counter beliefs. Having to defend ones beliefs is not the same thing as denying you the right to your beliefs.

Dems argue and fight with Reps about everything!
They are invested in defeat, and have no clear solution for this country's future! This is not to say that the current administration has the greatest plan either!@#$%^&*
I think that Wishy_Wash Kerry and Drinking_Buddy Ted Kennedy personify the stance of the Democratic party well.

I don't think liberals are the only ones who "preach". Each side has their proselytizers to varying extremes. Check out some of the political discussions on here. I use the word "political" sardonically; it's just a lot of name calling.

YOU'VE gotta be kidding me!!!! so are you saying that republicans don't "preach" their hate filled versions of Christianity upon all those who dare to have different beliefs? Because one is PRO LIFE, PRO Gay Marriage, have 'OTHER' religious/Spiritual beliefs than Christianity, feel that prayer belongs at home and in church and not in schools etc. etc., that this is not PREACHING how others should THINK? Wake up!!!!!
Liberals are too open minded to be self-righteous....that is a conservative trait!

From the extremist right. If the conservatives were all middle of the road, you'd hear less libs bitching and telling everyone how life should be.
