An ammendment to the Consititution was proposed that would have made it punishable to hold a title of nobilty (ie duke, that sort of thing). The punishment would be loss of citizenship. The ammendment was only for the punishment. The Consititution already said that it was illegal to hold such a title.

If passed would have been the 13th ammendment. It came close to ratification, but due to upsets caused by the war of 1812 (burning of the white house and many congressional records), it is not entirely certain whether it was ratified or not. Do you think this ammendment was sabotaged?

It is an issue in the past. It was involved in the circumstances and political climate of its day, and there does not appear to be any sabotage intended. It simply happened, in the open, up front. There was nothing underhanded in that it was not ratified.
