Both computers are 2 desktop computers, both have Ethernet Cards (currently peer to peer connected), running WinXP. Someone suggested to use SMC 7904, an ADSL Modem with 4 routers.

Assuming you plan to use both machines on the net at the same time you will need a way to share the 1 IP address assigned by your ISP. There are 2 ways to do this depending on what your operating systems are.

1 is to get a router and have both PCs in a subnet and be routed out to the net

the other is to use NAT (network address translation) either by getting a NAT device and installing it just before the ADSL modem or, if a pc can do it, by setting up 1 pc as a NAT server.

if you want to know more about either, post another question

I think the simplest way is to get another NIC card and put it in one of your computer. you can connect the line from adsl modem to this nic port. so you will have two network connections in one of your computer. one network connection is of your private network and other of your internet connection. now you can share this internet connection to the private network connection. to do this you can go to the properties of my network connections.
