The trick is to apply the lotion or cream after you shower or bathe, when your skin is moist and receptive to hydration. Whenever you wash your hands, always moisturize right after you towel them dry.

The other thing you must do is to make sure that you are constantly hydrated, and that you are taking in enough oils and fat, either through supplements or through proper nutrition.

I think skin can be made softer by using a face wash or something with some exfoliant in it (tiny beads or something that scrub your face) and then using lotion.

Lotion...if you put it on after you get out of the shower and towel off, you'll have soft skin. Just be regular about it. I've been doing this for years. I get compliments on how soft my skin is all the time!
