They are into the black culture but they don't really understand it. On TV, especially MTV it's advertised a lot and gives a young impressionable mind that it's the life to live like that, money, ho's and whatever, it's fun. Not all white kids do that.

The other explanation is Eminem for example. He's white but to me he acts black. He's from Detroit and had a supposedly rough childhood (mother was a drug addict, family was lower middle class, etc.). Well he probably found more black friends he can relate to since many blacks also grew up in that kind of similar situation where he could not relate to someone white from a two parent household, well educated, who gave him more opportunities to do more in his life like more whites can say they have. And then of course it's just a simple matter of what you like.

I think what you mean is "white kids acting in a stereotypically black manner" or "black kids acting in a stereotypically white manner." Here in Minnesota, (I am a New Yorker by birth) I've met an insane number of white kids that are obsessed with hip-hop "street" culture... it's so comical to me. They even form their own little gangs, which I also find amusing. These kids wouldn't know what to do with themselves if they suddenly found themselves dropped into NYC or Chicago... By the way, bobfartly... what a racist thing to say.

Good Q actually. I don't think it's a matter of acting "black" per se, but wanting to imitate their idols whom they see as not conforming to the rest of society (gangsters, etc.). The black people who live in my neighborhood don't walk around wearing pants where the crotch hangs down by their knees or talk unintelligibly and they're about as in tune with the hip hop or gangster culture as a white republican lol. I think it's a culture and language issue, not a color issue. Look back in time ...each decade had its outlaw that kids tried to imitate. Funny thing is that they don't even realise how much they conform by trying not to conform (i.e. clothing lines, etc.).

its probably because society today is turning more towards 'urban' like NBA and rap and those are things that are most common among black people so white kids arent really acting black, they are just taking in a new cultural norm based on the changing society heading toward a more urban culture. or it might b because of tv. you never know

Not all. I see some though that does, but only because they have a lot of black friends. Wouldn't you act differently if your friends are different?

White people in general are perceived to be "rich" and usually thought as weak, a "puss*y", whatever works. But, by impersonating a black person, people see them differently and probably don't associate them with the "white people" stereotype. The kids see the rappers with guns and whatnot and obviously perceive them as tough, hard, whatever word you'd like. That may be only an image, buts its one that sticks out and could very understandably seen as another way not to be stuck in the "white person stereotype. That why us white kids dress black.

I dunno. What's acting black? Why do some black kids like to act white? Why do some Asian kids like to act like Mexicans? If kids wanna be a certain way so be it. If acting black means wearing baggy clothes and saying "Yo yo yo.... I 'be' doing this and that...", then trust me, that's not acting black. That's acting stupid. Last time I checked, stupid wasn't a race.
