Looking at all the answers so far, I'd have to agree with the people who are saying Brazil. Whoever said that Netherlands would go to the finals, they're out of their minds. Netherlands is going to lose in the first round against Portugal 3:0. Even if they pull off a miracle, they'd have to play against either England or Ecuador and both of those teams have the potential to kick Holland's butt.
Since the Netherlands is completely out of the question there are only 4 really good teams that are able to win. Those are Italy, Portugal, Argentina, and Brazil. Argentina and Brazil will go to the finals and Brazil will beat them 3:2 or 2:1. For third place, Portugal will play Italy and Portugal is going to win it 2:1.
So my champion for the 2006 FIFA World Cup is Brazil. Second and third place will be Argentina and Portugal.
Though I have completely put Spain out of this entire ordeal, they will be a heavy contender especially to Portugal if Spain and Portugal have to play against each other. Right now, Portugal looks like a strong team with heavy potential, but not enough to beat the two powerhouses of Brazil and Argentina. All in all, Spain must be put into the picture because they truly do have a great defense.

Well Germany have good chances of reaching the final (if they beat Argentina) but you may notice that there in the final we may have brazil which is the toughest team in the world now, we have to remember the final match of the previous worldcup also where brazil beat germany. well germany have 80% chances to reach the final IF and only IF they go through the match with Argentina which is another tough team. Overall i would like to say brazil is at the top and germany and argentina are at number two. Germany may reach the final but in the final it may see problems with Brazil or Argentina. Brazil if favourite to win the worldcup along with Argentina. But we cant forget Italy which is another good team......so overall you can't say anything so early because all world's best 16 teams are in the ground at the moment...........please atleast wait till the Semi-Finals....

Brazil will beat Argentina 3-2 in the final. Portugal will beat Italy 2-1 in the third place match.

If I was going off of skill, I'd go with Brazil. If I was going off who wants it the most? I'd say Ghana. It just seems like they have their heart so far into this they're either going t o win, or die trying. I wish the US put their heart into the cup and pushed it all the way. Oh well, They'll get another chance in 4 years.

Not to sound like too much of a know-it-all, but history tells us that the team who has the higher goal total in the last game of the tournament when the game is over will be the victor. I cannot recall an instance where this is not the case.

For the third place you might consider these: Germany, Argentina and Italy.
