Chick flicks: Strictly Ballroom, Emma, Nicholas Nickleby
Thrillers: Kiss the Girls, Conspiracy Theory, The Negotiator
Drama: The Red Violin, Braveheart, The Shawshank Redemption
Old movies: Harvey (my favourite), Sabrina (with Audrey Hepburn), Yours, Mine, and Ours (with Lucille Ball)
Comedies: Waking Ned Devine, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Importance of Being Earnest
Musicals: The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Moulin Rouge
Slightly unheard of: Little Voice, The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio (new release), Rize (documentary)
Will take up lots of your time: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Extended Edition) -- movies + special features...
If you want some good TV series to watch on DVD, try 24, Lost, or Alias. Or for comedy, try Seinfeld, I Love Lucy, or Fawlty Towers. (I'm not sure how laughing will go with your throat hurting...)
Hope this helps. :o) Good luck with your recovery!

If you like music, I definitely recommend watching "Rent"
Otherwise there are many other good ones out right now. Just go to Blockbusters and plan it out. Remember to get the unlimited rentals for a month =P
So far I've watched
"Chronicles of Narnia- the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"
"Rent"
"In the Mix" -Usher =P
and "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" O.o
Wish you luck with your tonsils and all.

I assume by horror movies you mean like saw and... saw 2.. =P
Yeah, so, I would suggest my favorite classic "a clockwork orange." It's a bit british, but all around dirty, so it's ok. Sadly, I know that a 2 hour movie won't easily fill your 7-10 days. I'd suggest going on to ebay and buying whole seasons of tv shows or if you can appreatiate good japanimation, whole seasons of... japanimation. =P
What I've looked at on ebay sold at 1/12th the price of the seasons I bought on amazon.com. And seasons are usually expensive. =/
I bought cowboy bebop(japanimation), a season of Kids in the Hall(old comedy show), and Ruroni Kenshin(I so didn't spell that right)... I love all of them! And best of all, you can watch it for 12 hours straight and possibly not finish one of them. You could probably spend $100 at ebay and never have to watch the same episode twice.

*'Here Comes Polly' is a hilarious movie if you like Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston. They work well together in this and are totally funny in most all of the scenes.
*'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' is a new fave of mine with Val Kilmer & Robert Downey Jr. as detective and robber masquerading as detective. It is really witty and funny...a total surprise with the two actors having a great chemistry together also.
*'The Wedding Singer' the only movie I enjoyed Adam Sandler in is a great sweet and funny movie. Drew Barrymore works well with him and the fun 80's pop culture is hilarious to watch.
Take care and hope all goes well for you.
