Unlike almost every other profession, police officers do not get a lunch break. Most people are given, by labor laws, an hour lunch for every 8 hours they work. Police officers don't. They grab something to eat between calls if they have time. That is how the stupid "donut" cliche started. It used to be that the only thing open late at night where cops could grab something to eat or a cup of coffee was at a donut shop.

o.k. first thing you have to understand cops are everywhere.
Cops do not get a lunch break or anything like that.
lastly they are not rich.
With these 3 things combined they only have a short ammount of time to get something to eat while on shift.
This only leves 2 choses fast food or a convieniant store. Since fast food can get pretty expensive and that they are not in everysmall town this option is out.
This leaves only 1 option; convieniant store. Now in the past donuts were bigger then they are now and they only costed about 25 cents each. Whereas a candy bar costed about 50 cents and wer smaller. If you do the math; they got more for cheaper.
That is where people gets the idea of cops and donuts. Today it can be many things (candy bars, fast food at not rush hours, ect.)

I live 3 blocks from a 7-11, the cops are in there all the time eating donuts. The cashier told me the stereotype is 100% correct.

To answer your question.
Back in the day businesses would give free coffee and donuts to the cops to keep them hanging around in their shops. This would keep them from getting robbed and what better way to keep from getting robbed than to have the cops hanging around in your parkling lot or setting at the bar eating a free donut. So it really should be a joke on the public not the cops. We paied them to keep the bad guys out and then we gave them free food and drink.. But if it works me from getting shot or robbed, I would buy them a donut as well.
I myself don't like cops because thay are 90% bullies. Most should never have been allowed to be a cop. Maybe one day that mess will be cleaned up.

Honestly, it's a coincidence...I'm a cop and we don't eat donuts like you think. Half the time we don't get to eat at all while working. At least in my state. So no, it just happened to be a coincidence...Most of the cops I know don't even like donuts. I think they are ok, but I prefer candy bars or something.

No, it isn't unlawful to finished that. "He suggested that he can arrest me or provide me yet another cost ticket for no reason. " it is a lie. for the time of a McWorld Expo in Boston, a area become being prepared for a visit through the first female (Ms. Clinton). a good number of police. I requested one in all them if he'd like a donut. His reply, "it really is obtrusive that you're a vacationer because anybody in Boston knows that the police favor bagels." tremendous guy.

Sugar and caffine keep us all awake, and that is typical on any slow shift. Besides, you don't have to worry, they are still on the job. So unless they draw their guns and point them at you with their eyes glazed...they are just taking a deserved break. It's just a coincident that we all get the munchies.
