Pick something your interested in and know about. Otherwise, you won't care what you are writing about. Even a non-fiction book needs to have some spark to it.

You should write about what you know; what you are interested in, or what you want to learn about. The non-fiction genre is about truth and facts -- read some non-fiction books to see what you like.

i was trying to write a book and a study class i was in the teacher said to write about thing that you know about. or things that have happened in your life or around your life.

I think it works the other way around. First, you get the ideas, then you feel like writing them and finally you write them.

I usually just pick an object, think of all the weird stuff it could do, or you could do with it.
Like a coat hanger.... okay, my stories are a little out there.
