Well i am just building a cheap pc and i know the socket type is 478 on both the mother board and the Celeron D. But the Mother board just lists Celeron. It kinda raised some concernsabout compatability

If the socket types match as you say, they YES you can but you may have compatibility problems in that the BIOS may not correctly id the cpu... but if the cpu is socket 478 and the chip is 478 then YES you can use it.

Probably not - there are several types of celerons and the sockets are different. You'd need to know the CPU socket the board supports and then the chipset the motherboard uses to know if it would handle the CPU.
