I am not racist but, I have a question that I am not sure will go over well. Why do SOME not all, black ppl speak ebonics I guess it is called or street talk and do you not feel uneducated doing so or think that other ppl see you this way. The sam question can be asked of southern ppl , you guys also talk with slang all the time. The reason I want to know and this mainly concerns black ppl, is because you hear alot about wanting respect and good jobs and all of this but in many places where the community is largely black, ppl are rude and obnoxious or just talk in such an unproffessional way. I am not being mean or not trying to anyway, I just wanna know.

Hey blue, for the record, I never called anyone uneducated. Well, if YOU had read the question Properly, you would know this. I asked if these people/ppl, ( abbreviating sorry) ever felt that others thought of them this way? Maybe, you could go over it again.

I'm Black and I speak proper English at all times unless I'm just hangin' w/ friends. However, when it matters, and when I hear Black people speaking Ebonics -- or what I just plain call "ghetto" -- I think they are simply uneducated. I think they're low-class and I think they reflect poorly on ALL Blacks.

I think you are being prejudiced against blacks and southern people.
Mainly, in both cases, it is a cultural thing, a way of relating to people we have knowledge and traits in common with.
I was born and raised in the south, and yes, I have a southern accent, and yes sometimes I use "slanging" just as my fellow black friends do.
By the way, I am white.
None of these cultural differences make anyone dumb or inferior to anyone else.
Why are you focusing on blacks and people raised in the south?
What about people raised for instance in the Bronx, or Boston, or
New England? Do they not have an accent or use "slang" common to their area?
Does this make them inferior?
I assure you, there are plenty of black people and southern people that are not "dumb", that are gainfully employed and can carry on a converstion with anyone.
By the way, I have an IQ of 159.
I'd rather be slanging with some blacks and southerners and having a good time than talking to ignorant people that put their foot in their mouth any day.
Please think about what you are saying- it is a sterotype of a group of people.

As a Black man I don't think the talk is a sign of being uneducated not any more than the White southern drawl or the
Cajun accent. If you are brought up around people who talk a certain way you will copy that. As far as the rude and obnoxious
folks go that is a matter of adjusting their attitude. I try to smile and
greet folks when my own people will look at me like just shot their
best friend or mother. Black folks don't always have to smile or
be "showing their teeth" as Ice Cube said in 1 of his rap tunes, but
I feel that we don't have to always look like we are mad at the world either.

I can't speak for anyone else but I personally hate Ebonics. Learn a real language or get some actual education in the English language but don't call Ebonics a language when it's really a lack o f reinforcement of how to speak proper English.

I work with a lot of youth and hear a lot of "ghetto" or African American Vernacular English. It's interesting to me that you would also mention southern people, since AAVE is a variant dialect of Southern American English, influenced by African use of words and grammatical structure. It's amazing that it has survived to this day, actually, and keeps being used in exactly the same ways.
Every subculture develops its own way of speaking, its own lingo, its own terms. It's a way to identify who is really a part of the community and who isn't.
There are many things that can cause a person to appear poorly educated. For instance, using "ppl" instead of the word "people" or "alot" which is substandard English for "a lot."

you are generalizing first of all..you need to tailor your question to the hip hop generation of blacks..ALL groups in america have had slang..i am a black baby boomer..i can recall slang terms from the roaring 20's the 1920's to be precise..the bee's knees or geese louise..the 60's had groovy, far out, sock it to me, these were WHITE.. slang terms..where all whites hippies?? if you do not care for the terminology..that by itself is ok..but to make a blanket statement about ALL is judgemental..i believe that you mean no harm but you do harm to perpetuate this "all black people are the same", mentality that has gone on too long. not to mention is very hippocritical..why does it always have to be blacks that are viewed wrong for being different beginning with skin color and then people wonder why blacks are sensitive..we are always being judged or categorized before even being viewed as a regular person..it is not right for you to judge..you are not in a position to look down at anyone....."SO NOT COOL"..white slang btw..

the fact is we arent ignorant. when some of us are around our peeps we feel comfortable speakin the way we speak and we dont care who dont like it. u are stating the statement as though blacks are impudent. blacks are who we are and we arent ashamed of our culture nor our past of being slaves. i mean i feel comfortable walking up to my friends sayin "wassup ya heard" or "whats good with ya" thats just how we roll. u will never understand cuz its a black thang u got that i said thang not thing... anyways i mean sticking with the subject i am black 100% aint no denying that and I am proud about it.... i graduated at the top 5% of my senior class and i am a very intelligent young lady. when i am aroound my peeps i can talk ghetto or hoody and i know when to put my game face on and talk professionally......its all in the mind frame i mean some blacks cant speak properly for all types of reasons, well i would say lack of knowledge and lack of education.....

People talk in certain ways because that's how they talk. I'm from Texas and I've been told i have an accent and i do talk in slang quite a bit, but who cares? Try not to let it bother you. Maybe English people wonder why you speak in an "unprofessional" American accent and use slang like "truck" or "bathroom."

Thats the way we were raised. You were raised proper, so you talk proper. I was raised ghetto, so I talk ghetto. And it shouldn't really matter how you talk. As long as you know what we are talkin about, it shouldn't be a problem. And why is it that when white people make up a word, its considered as proper and put in the dictionary, but when black people make up a word, it doesn't get put in the dictionary. That s**t don't make sense.
