I think you probably answered your own question - sales tax is covered in the advertised price. You might check next time to see if the ones that charge sales tax, in their ads it says a price "plus tax".

I think some stores -- not just donut stores -- include the sales tax in the price.

Fat people buy alot of food, especially donuts. So the government is adding more taxes on the food at the popular donut joints.

As our nation gets fatter ... our government gets richer :-)

If you go to Subway, and order a cold sandwich to go, there is no sales tax. Have them toast the bread, then sales tax kicks in. So take it home and toast it at home.

They charge sales tax on the box or bag that you get it in. Food is non-taxable in most states. The cartons, containers, etc, are taxable. That's how fast food gets away with it.

By the Dept of Revenue in the State of WA., donuts and other sweet bakery items are sales tax exempt. Whatever listed on their menu board & that what you pay. But if you dine-in, you might pay some sort of service fee set up by the state that they occasionally come in and audit if we charge tax for dine-in customer...government BS. If they say if it's to go, you pay no tax, I go drive thru at McDonald why I pay tax?
