Helps both the doctor and the patient plan the method of treatment or to know what to expect.

Without statistics, how else could a doctor tell a patient... for e.g. you have about 3 months to live... these types of statements are all based on statistics.

Of course however, there are exceptions. Know of a lady who has cancer and was told 2 years ago that she had 3 months to live as her cancer was in advanced stage. BUT, she's still alive now. I think it's a miracle and due to her mental strength to fight the problem - meditation.

Statistics in medicine help in many ways. Lets start with medicine that heals. How medical companies are there, and how much many people use there drug. 2 How many doctors give
scrips to there patients for depression. All studies are important for the reason that no one
human body is alike, surveys and random studies tell doctors and insurance companies how good or bad each medicine is, and if the FDA sticks there nose into the studies, it may take months before things get better, if the medicine is tested on animals, instead of humans studies really go crazy, because rabbits or rats aren't human, so thats why statistics and human testing with medicine pay off, and side effects in medications if you look in the PDR or ask your doctor. He or she may only may give you what is passed on from his trainning.

The study of statistics helps us recognize the value of deviations from the expected norms in the general population when titrating and prescribing medicines, when making generalized statements about therapy outcomes, medication side effects, when describing commonly recognized symptomology of diseases, and the extrapolated predicted outcomes of contagions and/or medications.

Okay?
