Many people in the US don't like football. It's not "as exciting and fun" as American football or baseball. Both of those sports I think are lame and stupid.
I, for one, am glad the US lost. Hardly anyone cares about football here and why should a team go through with little support from their country?
I have no idea how much US players get paid, but GO ITALIA! ( :

Tough but good question...In some ways it just seems that the US was so disconnected from the rest of the world by mere miles that over the years it focused on the development of team sports that are more unique to the US. After all, imagine the cost of sending an entire US soccer team plus support staff and equipment to Europe for a season full of games compared to how much it would cost European teams to travel to another location in Europe. Moreover, how many European teams could afford to travel to the US many times - maybe more since they don't have as much money competing for other sports like football, basketball, and baseball. Its sad though because I can't think of anything better than sports or athletics (World Cup, Olympics, etc.) that can make us realize how truly small this planet is by providing a venue that brings us together. Sure better than politics that only seems to emphasize our differences and how far we are apart. As for producing good players or pay - Most of the soccer players I know don't make enough playing soccer to support themselves without another full-time job which is extremely difficult to accomodate around practice schedules, etc. Therefore, many who could go far seem to drop out after college.

The US does produce a lot of well known football players... :p
There are a lot of people in the US that like soccar and play it. It seems to me a couple years back we had someone that was supposed to be the best youngest player in the world, although I don't remember the name. I think some other country offered him a whole bunch of money to go play for them.
I'm not sure what the pay is for US players.

No. Because the womens world cup is awesome. College is very good in some places. But most kids who play sports in America want to play the big bucks sports and don't get into soccer. And for some reason soccer is looked at as a womens sports in the USA.

Easy Question.......The rest of the world have their professional players play in that world cup. To be honest with you that sport isn't anywher close to the excitment of USA football or basketball. Let me remind you that the USA is the ENVY of the World whether you agree or disagree...so of course the refs will try their best to take the US out of their backyard with bad calls and even if that wasn't the case we would still not be able to compete at least for now against countires like Brazil, England Germany, or Italy. The sport in Europe is also VERY corrupt with gambling and to wher even players takes dives all of the time when they are payed off. This is also the one time every four years to where Euro-Trash and Third world ingrate countires squander their savings away for this sport. It is becoming as corrupt as boxing and other sports today. That's why if not some or many Americans do not take it very seriously.

It's simply this, Americans in the vast majortiy, give no thought to soccer at all. It's not their sport, the have American Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey, although the last one to a minor degree.
It's a sport the kids play, mostly girls, and as such is enjoyed as a fun pasttime, not as a real sport.
I think we have a pro league, but not sure, and no idea how much they get paid. The money goes to Basketball and Baseball, mainly.

The USA isn't anti-soccer; it's just that with football, baseball, and basketball, most of our countries top athletes know that they have more opportunities for money, fame, and chicks with these sports, and soccer just isn't gonna do it.
The US players get paid, just nowhere near what the top Europeans make or what the top American athletes make in the big 3 sports.

Short answer is this: the majority of Americans have short attention spans and can't fathom something where no one wins (i.e. a tie game). They need immediate action and scoring or they get bored with it. They see the outcome of the game and not the little intricate details and plays that make the game so exciting. I know it's harsh to say such things about Americans, but don't forget, I am one (but I understand and love the sport).

The USA isn't anti-soccer, it's just that we have lots of other sports here that we like better. We love basketball and baseball way more than soccer.

the US likes to follow the bandwagon.
if we're the best in the world at a sport, we're all over it.
if we're not, then we're less interested.
US national team members get paid - not like the big name club teams, but they still get paid.
