I am using Windows XP home. I am looking to share a external hardrive over my home network. I am looking for a way to password protect it so only people who are authorized can open the drive.

right click on the drive >properties > security and set security.

Sorry, it's a feature faded away. The password-protected network share only exists in Windows 95/98.

the way in which to password look after stuff that you want to stay 'look after' on a laptop is to .zip it ok this on the exterior would look stupid, besides the undeniable fact that it does artwork. password look after your zipped archives, submit to in innovations the more desirable the password the more advantageous secure you're, the archives won't be able to be extracted except you take advantage of the password. you could surely upload extra archives and folders to the zipped document and also you may want to get admission to those archives immediately also. can a password be damaged, all issues are obtainable, besides the undeniable fact that the harder you're making it the added sturdy it really is to do. you actually carry the foremost.
