no. in the long run, it would be better to have evidence than to also get the crap beaten out of yourself and probably arrested.

No keep the video cam rolling. If you hit the person the police were beating, you would be charged with assault. If you attacked the police, you would be charged with assaulting a police officer. If the person getting beaten is resisting arrest, you can stop the person but should not get involved in any hitting or fighting. If the police are using excessive force (battery) then keep the cam rolling and you can help the other guy more by giving him/her the tape for court.

No, don't piss off the police by getting involved. you may get beaten yourself. send your video to your District Attorney or to the Justice Department In Washington DC. Its hard to be a witness with a broken Jaw. A picture is worth a thousand words

I would get enough tape of them beating this person, to prosecute the proper people, secure the camera in a place where the police could not confiscate it, and jump in to help one side or the other, depending on how I felt.

Videotaping might be the best help he/she could get--proof when it gets to court.
I would call someone for help, though--maybe the state police, or the county, or the sheriff's dept. Better yet, the FBI--they'd love to get something on the Detroit police.

Help them beat him? What?

No, seriously, I think getting it on video is much more helpful in the long run, if there is a serious problem. If not, the video ought to show that too. I like video much better than people throwing more punches. Don't think that would help anyone at all.

I would hold the camera with one hand and pick up a cell phone with the other. I mean, the guy would need the video to sue their a*s*s*e*s off.

If it was the local police I'd call the State police or FBI and ask them to intervene. I would keep recording in secret.
