I am American Chinese or A.B.C. My great grandfather worked the cane fields in Hawaii in the late 1800s. They called it blood work because the cane leaves cuts into your flesh, and by day's end, you're unsure if you're sweating blood. And of course, the Chinese did the most dangerous work in building the transcontinental railroad in North America.

In my native New York, I have met people who assumed that I cannot speak English! Ironically, I am also fluent in Cantonese (verbal and written), some Mandarin, some French, some Spanish and some Italian. The first part of any immigrant assimilation is losing the native dress/clothes. The second part is losing the language. But most immigrants keep the final part of their original identity -- cultural food. And no matter if you are part Chinese or full Chinese, our features are always recognized. It never occurs to people that I'm a 4th generation American.

Fortunately, we enjoy positive stereotypes such as possessing brilliant intellect and being hardworkers for the most part. Negatively we are considered socially inept and tricky.

Dear,
There are always good and bad people... same with Chinese... they are also people.

I mean, I wouldn't base on the nationality itself... we all seem to see that people have their problems in their culture or beliefs... but it's just our perception and the culture we are in that dictates how we judge others... well most of the time. Of course, there are the worse things in some cultures and the better in others... vice versa. Like (IMO) Chinese gotta change their diet, too much oil and fried food items may be a harmful diet. On the other hand, many people in the Western countries probably should low their sugar or fat-contained substance amount that they take everyday . Or here in Vietnam - where I live - people should think a little more wider... i mean start to accept the good, the better cultural values found in other cultures... or on the other hand... some cultures should be a lilttle more conservative.

It's impossible to judge an entire race or nation of people. I'm sure there are a lot of Chinese people who are extremely friendly, but there are also some Chinese jerks. They're the same as every other person on Earth: worthy of being judged individually instead of lumped into preconceived groups.

I am from a small town. I have travelled extensively throughout a 20 year period, I have worked with many people. What I like about Chinese people is that they are very meticulous as well as polite. However, when I go to Vancouver on occasion, it strikes me as odd that there are so many Chinese immigrants who do not speak any English, and to be honest with you, it does seem like they are keeping to themselves and not very interested in integrating to the West.

Chinese need to quit eating globs of garlic so that it reeks from their skin and grosses everyone out.
This isn't any kind of discrimination, they don't have the courtesy to use the many product that can eliminate that odor.
Other than that, nothing beats a plate of Chow Fun!
