It's not a question...it's me complaining. I was training for electronic service technician and I was a natural at it. I was told that I was very good at it. As my co-workers were getting to know me, I found out that they were all jehovah witnesses. The more they got to know me, the more I felt like I was stepping on broken glass. I'm far from perfect but if I'm doing a great job, then whats the problem?? 3 months later, I lost my job due to different beliefs. Can u believe that!! That's what my boss told me. "Over different beliefs" I also found out that everyone there at the company was jehovah. I'm catholic and well I don't even follow my own religion. That doesn't mean I'm a bad person. But let me tell you, the next time people ask me questions about me and my life, I will be reserved about it cause I thought they were getting to know me as a person but really they were scanning me to see if I fit in with the company. They're a bullshit company and I hope they fail.

i did go to labor board but because i was there 89 days, they say I can't do anything about it. if i had been there 92 (over 3 months) they could have been in big trouble. i can't afford a lawyer. thx 4 all your responses.

I've just read some of the answers listed above and it is true that you have to let some things go but in your case I would push the issue a little further. Yes, it is true, that you were let go during your three month probation period, and I am not totally up to date on labour code, but descrimination is descrimination. You definately would not get hired by the company again but if the company had no idea of keeping you on because of religious beliefs they really should not have hired you in the first place. They could've saved you all a lot of grief, but they couldn't screen out on the basis of your beliefs because it is wrong. Obviously they are aware of it too or they would have had religoius standing as one of their hiring criteria.

I would contact some advocacy groups that deal with descrimination cases. If you don't know of any run it through a search engine and check around.........what's it going to hurt? Even if it doesn't go any further, doing what ever you can to see that they don't do this again may help give you some sense of closure so you can get past this and move on.

Did this firing happen after you were outside of your 3 month probation period? If so, even if it was only a day after 3 months, they've violated your human rights and you can go after them for it. It's your choice, but I would be talking to a lawyer if you know one or the Labour Board for Canada.

You can't get fired for having different religious beliefs. I would file a complaint with the Labor Board for being terminated unfairly.

Isn't it against the law in Canada? It is in the USA. Here, the EEOC would investigate and file a lawsuit on your behalf. You cannot discriminate on the basis of religion.

I feel for you! I understand completly. It's happened to only under different circumstances. Perhaps it is best to remain reserved.

if it was me and the boss actually said that i would go straight to a lawyer. employers are not allowed to discriminate based on race, sex, religion, etc...
