Russia home to 10 million more women than men
Russia is home to 10 million more women than men, said State Statistics Committee head Vladimir Sokolin citing results of the 2002 census during a press conference earlier this week. Russia has a female population of 77.6 million and 67.6 million men. In 1989, the difference in populations between men and women was 9.6 million. Sokolin said that the number of women begins begins to exceed the number of men at age 33.

Other than the Vatican, every country in the world has more women than men. The main reason for this is that women tend to have a life expectancy several years longer than that of men (though during times of warfare the difference will be even more dramatic due to the loss of life among male soldiers). That also explains why there are many more widows than widowers in a population.

China has more women than men, at least in some age groups. There was more status in having a boy baby, so girls were "eliminated". Now there are hundreds of men going wifeless.
