yes, and it began to do so after television came along. American football is much more friendly to television viewing than baseball is, mainly because most of the action can be contained in the camera shot. Basketball is another example of a sport whose popularity has been enhanced by television, while hockey has been unable to capitalize on the tube because of the difficulties of following the puck on a conventional TV (though HD televisions are clear enough to pick it up).
Another reason is that the NFL has done a far better job at running its league's affairs than baseball has. All thirty-two teams (save for one or two badly run franchises) have at least a halfway decent chance at the playoffs every year. The same cannot be said for baseball.

No. It is easy to see how it might appear so, but if you look at the popularity of the two sports you will see that attendance for baseball far surpasses that of football. Also MLB tickets are substantially more affordable that football thus making the family outing a little more manageable for baseball. Additionally baseball has more adhesion to a wider fan base. Football appeals to men between 12 and 55 mostly. Baseball has an appeal in both men and women....especially when it's time to stand up and sing the "7th inning stretch"...."take me out to the ballgame...take me out to the crowd!!!"...you just don't get that connection with football.

soccer has surpassed baseball in terms of usual attendance and rankings by utilising utilising human beings staring at on television. The super Bowl is the #one million watched wearing journey in the country (although the commercials have some thing to do with it). And even with the indisputable fact that baseball's sales cap has made numerous divisions properly suited-heavy think of roughly this. international sequence champions 2001- Diamondbacks 2002- Angels 2003 - Marlins 2004 - purple Sox 2005 - White Sox 2006 - Tigers or Cardinals No different game has controlled this point of parity of championships.

Football is great! Baseball is still and will always be the National Pastime but I believe football is America's passion.

Well, I think football games are more fun to watch and more avidly watched on television, especially because there are only 16 games played over a four month period... they're much more meaningful. As for the whole 'national pastime' thing, not sure. But I won't watch an entire baseball game on television... I'd rather watch paint dry.

I really hope that you are not that STUPID and are referreing to SOCCER. That is like saying that the USA will win the World Cup against Italy or Brazil in the next championship. I am from the United States and If indeed you are talking about Euro Soccer than that has got to be the dumbest thing that I have ever heard since LA LA Land is an Island that you can visit in this country and Michael Jackson will be the next president in in IRAQ. I totally Apologize if you are talking about the NFL. :]

Yes it has surpassed baseball. Not many people are into baseball anymore. I am. But still, it's lost popularity.
And AnswersAddict, NASCAR is the #2 sport in America, with NBA 3rd and MLB 4th.
