I agree~I have always thought that they were WAY overrated~
THE STONES ROCK!!!!
My top ten Stones songs and why I chose these ~
1. Sympathy for the Devil ~ many years with attorneys~ I have learned some courtesy :)
2. Walking the Dog ~ no one does the blues like the Stones ~ "silver buttons all down her back" I play it over and over
3. 19th Nervous Breakdown ~ completely relate to need of Mother's Little Helper
4. Honky Tonk Women ~ it WILL break you out of a coma and I believe that I have been a Honky Tonk Woman in Memphis many times :)
5. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction ~ can't say any more about that one
6. Beast of Burden ~ had bf who sang it to me all the time (he was in a band) thinking he was the beast of burden not me :)
7. Can't You Hear Me Knocking ~ oh, those college years...
8. Monkey Man ~ I'm a monkey! Greatest ridiculous lyrics ever~~~
9. Memphis, Tennessee ~ way better than that other guy who sang it ~ opened with this song the first time I saw the band in Memphis (had great seats!)
10. Let's Spend the Night Together ~ great pick-up line??? Does Mick need a pick up line???

The Beatles are not over rated, and as a music form, it holds a place along with all the other important music styles out there. Wolfgang Amedeus Mozart was born 250 years ago, and I believe that the Beatles music will still be played 200+ years from now.

Maybe so...I'm not a big fan of them but as mentioned in a previous answer here, they paved the way for other bands on how music was done....The Ramones did it in the 70's and I think they were the 2 most influential bands in the history of Rock & Roll...not to take anything from the Stones!!!

Sometimes the simpler songs [in life] are more poetic and catchy than other more modern tunes!
The Beatles are not over-rated. Michael Jackson bought that entire collection for some serious COIN (ie. ess-loads of MONEY)!!!
Check out the music hall of fame in Cleveland OH and I bet it has a lot to say about why the Beatles were groundbreaking.

I like the Beatles for the same reason I like most of my other favorite bands...they are different. No one sounds like the Beatles. Yes, there are many bands who try, but none of them get it right.
Who but the Beatles could write songs like Helter Skelter and Hey Jude?

Your berry flavored poo (see profile) is contaminating your sense of perception. âº
It WAS the simplicity of their sound, the never before heard vocal harmony arrangements and their uncanny lyrical message that put the Beatles over the top and changed the world of rock and roll as we knew it. They carved out the path that would be walked by every rock band to follow! â«âªâ«
I like the Stones too...Jagger rocks!

The Beatles are a *little* overrated, yes. But, by today's standards. By standards of the 60s, they were doing stuff no one else was doing and paving new roads in music, especially towards the end of their career together. Plus, songs don't have to be "hard musically or lyrically" for them to be fun and enjoyable to listen to.
