You can, however the camaro's are making a much stronger comeback this year. I know a guy who's been trying to sell off his El Camino for 4 years, nobody wants it, as its just the camaro's that are selling. And, there's more parts available for a camaro vs. an el camino

Yes. It's not as popular as the early 70s El Camino's but you can still make a decent ride out of it.
I've seen a few done up in car shows.

If you have a lot of friends, you may regret the El Camino and its limited seating. However, the elky can haul stuff well - which would make it a good car/trucklet to haul things to college (in your near future). However, the Nova does have decent capacity, plus that extra seating. You really should decide which one will best fit with the type of life you live, and factor in the looks factor as a secondary thing. I personally would choose the elky on looks, but nova on real-world practicality over the next few years.

Yes you can, you can put in a big block motor inside those El Camino's and let it rip, I would recommend putting a souped up 350 V8 or a 383 stroker V8.

Depends on how much you're willing to spend. With a fairly large investment of time, money and grief, yes.

But they're kind of awkward for running...there's no weight in the back, so you'd have to carry sand bags around if you wanted to get maximum performance out of the rear end.
